Was driving home and heard Freebird.
Man. What a classic bad ass laying down of the guitar!
Heard it millions of times. But never really listened.
That outro solo is so bad ass.
Why don't we ever talk about these guys?
Sorry....on a southern rock kick.

I agree. Southern Rock players knew how write solid, melodic songs with bad ass guitar work. I still marvel at the works .38 Special did. A little more refined than LS but still awesome. My favorite guitar riff southern rock song will aways be Train Train though.

The lead playing is most excellent...all the playing is excellent. I was a little kid and I listened to my sisters records, street survivors, esp the song "that smell" is still one of my all time favorite songs for lead guitar.

Blackfoot "Strikes" realeased in the disco heyday, is one hell of a recording.

That band had three phenomenal guitarists. Unbelievable that they all ended up in one band.

How about "Dry County"? Covered that way back in 90, we did a lot of B-sides and got away with most of them..  Yeah as an 8th grader I burned through my cassette of " Gold and Platinum" real fast. Another tune I liked was "Chained Lighting" by 38 sp...

I'm on a huge Molly Hatchet kick at the moment.....they have some killer stuff as well

Just loaded a bunch of 38 special on my music list.
Loving it. Nice slightly dirty guitar tone.

Allman Brothers is more my speed. Dickie Betts, Duane Allman, Warren Haynes. Killer tones, licks and phrases, what else could you want?

F Freebird. I just heard it too many times. I'm not into guitar solos as much as I'm into songs. F Yngwie as well.

But Skynyrd. Fucking A. If that's not southern rock, STFD. Saturday night special is one of my favorites. There's a tune I do on the resonator called Four Walls of Raiford. Powerful tune for just guitar and vocals.

What do you mean outside the comfort zone? This IS my comfort zone... Even when I play metal it has a southern rock style in there. Love The Hunt, Gimme three steps, The breeze, Needle and the spoon, Simple Man.. and many more. LOTS of bourbon consumed on a mountain top, with babes n my buds, with this blaring from the truck!

Fire up "Rough Housin'" and then thank me after you've listened to it 5 times in a row...

:D

A song I heard a million times as a kid and thought I never wanted to hear again was Radar Love. Been hearing it on the radio lately and it's like I'm hearing it wirh new ears. Amazing arrangement and production and just cool as fuck.

Mr Banker by LS has some of the tastiest slide I've ever heard and the tooooone... :inlove:

Also who can deny Black Betty.
