What cables do you guys used for preamp to power amp connections? What is your favorite speaker cable? At the moment I am using monster cables for my instruments.

Ya know I have a hard time paying loads of money for cables. I use Planet Waves Circuit Breaker cables and they sound great and don't color the tone at all.

If money was no object, I would buy Mogami. Their quality is unmatched IMO.

shielded cables are used for instruments, right?
unshielded cables for other applications, correct?

I'm a loser and use Monster cables...

.... reason being is my good friend works at Guitar Center, and out of all the "Higher End" cables, the mark up is the highest on Monster Cables, so that means he can give me the biggest discount on them...

I know they catch a lot of heat but I've never had one of the gold tipped ones go out on me, the lower value ones have crapped out on me before (I'm talking 2 in maybe 4 years). I also use a couple of their patch cables, never had problems with those either. The few ones that did crap out I just brought them back no questions asked and got a brand new one in the packaging... (not saying you can't do this with other brands)

That being said, when I was building my crazy VH-4 rig a year or so ago and I was ordering nice cable, it was Mogami wire with Neutrik ends all the way, I also have a Mogami cable that I use when my wireless isn't necessary and I absolutely love it, it's much slinkier than the Monster cables, that is my biggest complaint about the high end monster stuff, the cables are very stiff.

I'm admittedly not really the kinda guy that spends a lot of time trying different cables, or strings, or tubes, speakers etc... so take that for what it's worth... I did pick up a new pack of the Ernie Ball Cobalt Strings today, gonna write a quick little review here in a couple minutes, that's off topic though, sorry!!!

The new American Stage cables by Planet Waves beat them all. I had a whole thread about it if you wanna dig it up. I'm lazy.

Talking capacitance, the new Planet Waves American Stage cables are 28pf/ft, while Mogami is 37.9pf/ft. A 30ft American Stage cable has less capasitance than a 25ft Mogami Gold cable, and sounds every bit as good. They make Monster Cables look like plastic starter cables, for literally half the price.

Shielded cable for signal. Use it from guitar to effects to preamp to poweramp. From poweramp to cab you gotta use speaker wire to carry the load. The fatter the speaker wire, the better.

For speaker wire, especially if you're not doing any long speaker runs, skip the fancy stuff. You won't notice the difference between Planet Waves, Monster, and Mogami. Get something affordable, as long as it's not pencil-thin.

I've done major tests between lots of cables. The lava cable ELC really was the best thing I've played. Also kimber speaker cable is amazing. Huge difference vs other cables I've tried

Personally I buy Canare GS series and have had good luck with their product for many years. Just my preference.

I am wondering BeZo, have you tried a blind test of your cables against others with your own ears?

Did a blind test with some buds a while back with most of the popular cables and it was interesting on the results. Posted the testing as a thread sometime back. I ask this cause I am wondering of your ear can tell the difference between 28pF and 47pF and find which cable you like.

I use all voodoo amps' cables.

I had just bought a Planet Waves kit to rewire everything, but I decided I like my amp, wireless, gmajor setup. I sold all my pedals and switchers, but still need to sell my cable kit.

It's kinda hard to do a blind test when you're all alone, like me. I did do an eyeglass test between the Monster, Mogami, and American Stage cables. I did notice that my guitar came out more clear with the Planet Waves. Then I did the homework about the capacitance. My 30ft American Stage cable sounded better than a 25ft Mogami cable, and I'm learning quickly that 30ft is way too much for me. I can only imagine what a 20ft cable will sound like.

Well if its low cap your looking for then you may want to try the Bill Lawrence, they claim 20pF.

My favorite instrument cable is Evidence Audio or Lava ELC

Pedal board I like Mini Lava ELC or Mogami 2319

For speaker cable I like Vovox.

Mogami is what I've always used. Not saying its the best out there because I haven't tried the others but it does sound extremely transparent.
I use George ls for anything that isn't in my main signal path like my rack tray pedal board.

The reason I'm all exided about the Planet Waves American Stage cables is not entirely because of their quality. See, I am poor. I'm getting these new cables for $25, and I'm selling my old Monster caables for more. I would gladly pay $70 for a better cable if I had the $70, but it's not worth all the extra money to me. I'm pretty happy with the new cables, and for the money, they are hard to argue with.

Horizon. For 20+ years. Affordable, durable, lifetime warranty - and I've never had to send one back.

Evidence monorail (EA) for some pre to power.
Lavacable for effects and patching.
Vovox for instrument and amp to cab.
