Hmmmm...

Talking about Devi, possible promotion of the new console line, not to mention a brand new membership to Rig-Talk...

Could this be the Devi herself? Lol.

Sorry if my excitement got the better of me.
But knowing that the console platform won't just exist next year (or Christmas rather) and that some time next year the other companies who joined the band wagon are going to have cartridges out is nothing short of awesome.

There was a list of about 30 or so others jumping on it, but the ones that I remember so highly were: Dr.Scientist, Wampler, Earth Quaker Devices, and Empress effects.

Being able to get effects from them for only $50-$100 is something to give most guitar players one hell of a stiffy

Matt at stompunderfoot.com makes some great fuzzes too, alot of vintage repro type stuff.

great thread....whats the most "metallic" (not metallica) or not metal, but metallic....brash sounding one...
not typically spitty or blippy...throaty with cutting highs .

think mick mars tone from the shout at the devil album.

anyone?

I'm on Zvex fuzzes. With my bass, I love my Mastotron. It does the fart great with a lot of beef in it. Really thick, yet splatty. But, that's a bass fuzz.

The Fuzz Factory is where it's at. It can do everything else that all the others do, and it can do things that no other fuzz can do. It's got lots of weird oscillation and noises if you play with the knobs. It's great for that big song ending noise session where you feed back and twist the knobs, kinda like twisting the time knob on a delay pedal with the feedback jacked (only it's a different space ship). You just gotta be really precise on setting your knobs and making sure they are set right at a gig. "Right on" and "Close enough" can be completely different sounds.

As for Devi Ever, she makes some solid stuff. I had a Hyperion for a while, but I sold it after I got my Zvex stuff. Devi tends to make sort of one trick ponys if you ask me. You either like it, or it gone. They are cheap enough to try though.

My main thing about Germ fuzzes is that, yes they sound great. But Germanium transistors are so much more temperamental. Being in Canadia Land means 35c in summers and -35c in winters, so I could see one bad day with a window left open destroying my fuzz pedals. It is hard to say the least to find a silicone fuzz that can sound like a germ, but some companies have done it like Retro Channels The Fuzz.

Zvex fuzz factory is a great pedal, but be warned that one stupidly hot day, or stupidly cold could change your tone of the pedal forever.

Old demo when the Dunlop JH Fuzz Face first came out. I think I'm gonna revisit this one-

That sounded great Carl , would love to hear you do it again with the EJ fuzz. Im curious with them both being Silicon Fuzzes...

How would you compare the fulltone 70's, The JH fuzz and the EJ fuzz?

They under- bias the EJ fuzz so it more a sputtery response, plus it has diff trannys BC183

The Fulltone 70's is like the Jimi FF but maybe not as fat.

There is a comparo vid I'll find and put up between the Dunlop fuzzes

I saw that vid, it was pretty interesting. I noticed that about the Fultone . I do think that it gets pretty fat( for me) but It sounds smoother than the EJ. Funny considering that Mike built the 70's based off of EJ's old FF...

I need to play with the bias pot on my EJ, it's not sputtery enough, too smooth! :)

I was never much of a fuzz guy either. I typically like more definition and don't really like the razor sharp buzzy tone most of them have. I got the bug listening to guys doing Gilmore stuff and decided to look at Big Muff clones. I settled on a Blackout Effectors Musket. It the swiss army knife of fuzz boxes. I've dialed in Page's dark syrupy tone in "You Shook Me" to razor's edge rasp. It smooth lead tone is amazing with a single pole loaded Strat & stacks really well with other pedals. I can even be set up for more of a distortion tone like these clips I recorded through a little vintage tube amp.

Cool video, thanks for finding it.

I liked them in this order:
JB
Hendrix
EJ
red

I guess that means I really need to pick up a Germanium FF.

Keeley fuzz head for me. Its not an outrageous fuzz just the right amount with an overdrive quality to it.
