I found my Tele!

The G&L ASAT classic is the best Tele I ever played. It will never leave me for very very sure!

Unless you are looking for a vintage-like Tele, ASAT ftw

I always dug these:

Bit of a PITA to find since they were only sold over in Japan, however. If you're willing to hold out for a bit, you might be able to find a Suhr T2 for ~$1300 used.

Edit: Nevermind. The Suhrs have the 3 saddle bridge instead of the 6.

Love the road worn series from Fender...plays and sounds perfect.

Love teles :inlove: (my #1 guitars)
But I prefer the 3 brass saddles. It just doesn't sound or feel right without them (imo, of course)

I love teles, and the ASAT is typically at the top of the list for me. They're all just so well done, both USA and Tribute models. They have two different fret radii, 7.5 and 12, so be sure about what you're getting.

Two cheap options that are both solid are the Peavey Reactor and Yamaha 301. I have a reactor with birdseye maple neck and board and Fender custom shop tele pickups that just rocks. All for under $300.

have an American Deluxe Tele. Love it. changed out the noiseless pickups tho..sounded kinda sterile. Would prefer a G&L tho...more my vibe i guess.

In my humble experience they sound best with the 3 piece brass bridges.

But teles rule, best guitar for making a grinny face and rocking out powerchords

I own a Fender Richie Kotzen Tele (like the one pictured above) and it's GREAT!

Definitely worth checking out. I've also heard really good things about the Fender Road Worn line.

A friend of mine bought a G and L bluesboy tribute series. The tributes are the made overseas models in case you didn't already know. It felt great in my hands, very solid and he only paid about $750 for it. Didn't get a chance to check out the tone very much but seemed a little different that your classic tele. Not bad, just different, which I suspect is due to the pickups. I have a Suhr on the way that I ordered in July. I'm hoping to see it in early December. I'll let you know what I think after I get it. For a lot less money, the Squire classic vibe tele is one of the best I picked up, seriously. It felt better than almost all of the Fender americans I tried. Sound was there to. Probably nothing a set up couldn't help on the Fender Americans.

Just my opinion but to me a tele isn't a tele without the ashtray bridge plate. I prefer the awkward looking poorly intonated 3 saddle bridge as well. And binding on a tele body just screams class. Love it.

I personally like the Deluxe USA but didnt like the S1 switching system in it. I have a Dlx USA strat and dont use the S1 switching system in it either. I would throw some Vintage vibe of pups in it. Just my 2 cents :)

If you want a Tele get a nice Fender one. The Road Worn's are great. I would not get any of the Deluxes, split coils, humless etc... Get a real Tele. I'm a Tele guy bigtime, I recently got a Road Worn and threw a set of Lolar Special Ts in it, inspired by a Nash Tele we had at the studio for a while that was killer. The Road Worn with Lolars is deadly. The only mod I did was a got a Fender vintage bridge (6 saddle version) and replaced the original tail piece. For me I can't play a Tele with 3 saddles, the intonation issues are a killer in the studio. My ear is way to acute for tuning for that scene. But get a good Fender, it's classic.

I have a few fender teles also, but this one rules the roost...

I didn't want to say it before, but I agree with James.
Tele = Fender, imo.

You guys are not helping my Tele GAS. Never owned a standard Tele, had a Contemporary MIJ tele for years, but that was different. I have 3 strats and no Tele's, that must be a crime.

Its good to know that the G&L have too different radius necks. The last G&L legacy I played many years ago, I just couldn't bond with the neck, it didn't feel like a Fender neck to me. Great guitar otherwise though.

There's a store near me that carries a lot of G&L guitars. They look great and sound great, but I can't bond with any of the necks at all for some reason...totally not for me.

I will say one thing if you go for a G&L make sure you love it, they are hard as hell to resell. My engineer has 2 that he has been listing on Los Angeles craigslist forever.
