Guitar Center was selling these for cheaper than the HD300 so I grabbed one. I needed a modeler since my amp has been acting up for weeks now and I'm using the HD400 into a small mixer through KRK Rockit 5 speakers. You know what? It sounds pretty freakin good with some tweaking. I know it doesn't have a zillion amp models like the Axe-Fx but I got this thing for around 300 bucks and when it's 11:30pm and I feel like learning a song or playing annoying sounding licks over and over I really don't need to have a tube amp going.

For the dough it's a great buy as long as you don't complain that it doesn't sound 100% like a tube amp, which it doesn't. But it still sounds decent. I'm finding myself using the screamer pedal model to boost the high gain amps because the amp sims seem a little tame as far as gain goes, the pedal sim takes care of that though.

I was worried about a fixed route for effects but everything let's you set it either pre or post which is good enough for me. The HD500 let's you do more with effect placement and has more footswitches, but I didn't feel like spending 500 bucks.

i've been thinking about a hd 500 for a while now
i play every other sunday night at church for one set and it's too much hassle setting up all my stuff for that.

when i play 4 sets in a row (1 sat night/3 sunday morning)..i'll stick with the full peacemaker or fender w/d rig

You know what? Last night I worked out three new songs for my creepy middle aged band using my Vox VT-20 and jamming along to YouTube and it got the job done. I laugh my ass off at all the threads looking for 100 watt thousand dollar plus amps for practice

I still have a PODXT Pro that is cool for what it does. Insane patch = instant skill

You get a lot for the money and it's nice that you don't need to buy an extra MIDI footpedal or an expression pedal, like what you would need for an Axe-Fx. I did wish it had the SLO amp sim but I find the treadplate works good. The effects alone are pretty good, no complaints at all about them.

Yeah, I still dig my Digitech Rp1000. I just got asked to play in another band. I did my first rehearsal the other day and I was going to bring my JVM210, a 2x12 and the digitech Gsp1101 and at the last minute I decided that would more then likely be a but overkill, so I brought my
Rp1000 and two Tech21 power engines and you know what? It killed lol.

I think to many people get hung up with all this stuff.

I've been running a little digitech RP250 for years when i play at church. it goes into a DI, and to the mixer

upsides:
- doesnt weigh ~200 lbs like a half stack
- flexibility vs. my two channel amp setups
- doesnt weigh ~200 lbs like a half stack ;)

downsides:
- definitely doesnt look as cool on stage
- doesnt have the same feel (due to no tubes or big cabinet onstage)

its great for the weekly thing, and you cant argue with the light weight and convenience. however, i bring the big guns when we do an outside thing or special events. :D

All those modellers have reach a point where they are now very usable, I have a Pod HD 500 and even if I'm going Diezel it will stay home for late practice and B rig. It's my grab'n'go stuff with my PE60.

I still use a GNX 3 for practice. It's easier for me just to plug my IPOD into the jack with headphones. I can hear the details of the song better when I'm playing along compared to a external stereo and amp. Sounds good enough for practice.

That's one thing I don't understand about the RP1000. No external input for and Ipod.

I had the HD500 and sold it. I upgraded to the Axe FX and it's a huge improvement... BUT, I'm tweaking so much and not really getting the sound I need for the band I recently joined. It can do everything else though. I'm considering selling the Axe FX II, grabbing a good ol' rackmount Dual Recto and effects unit, then a POD HD300 for home use, or maybe even using plugins only. I've honestly gotten equally as good results from LePou Lecto and some other free plugins as the Axe FX II for this one particular sound I want, lol.

Those HDs are nice for the money. I hate the looks and UI though.

I love my HD Pro I recently got. If you are hat home and recording or just dinking around, it is great.

I've got the HD 500. They are great tools. Very flexible and easy on the back.

I have a POD HD bean into 2 Roland cube monitors.

During the week I usually play that more often so I don't bother people as much.

I pretty much use 1 tweaked patch all the time and hardly deviate from it...

The HD500's were at Hello Music around Christmas time for $375 and they sold out fast. I regret not getting one then.

Roland MicroCube bitches. Since 2004 when I got back into this thing of ours, I haven't owned a single amp longer than I have the Cube.

I have an HD300 as well. For $300 though, the HD400 is real nice.

I just got a Pro HD rack mount. To me its easier to program and quicker than the Axe II. Sounds great at a quarter of the price of the Afx2.

Look at it this way:

L6 G90 wireless $500
L6 Pro HD $630 Comes with a USB cord
L6 Mk II pedal $200 Comes with an Rj45 cable
RT2/50 $600
Total $1730 That leaves $300 left over from what an Afx2 would cost :D

Axe II $2250
MFC 101 $800
Amp ? Already at $3250

I have an HD500 and I like it a lot. It has really impressed me in terms of modeling. It is really making me consider getting rid of some tube amps and getting an Axe-FX.

Yup, been jamming my 500 a lot lately and really diggin it! Just got into an argument with my buddy over this thing today, as a matter of fact. He played an old first gen pod and some shitty Spyder amp so he automatically thinks all pods suck...keep telling him the new one sounds pretty good. I'll have to trick him into liking it with a blind test comparison clip;)
