My live rig is becoming unwieldly...

I'm the Frontman, rythm, and co-lead guitar in my band. Busy boy!

I "Usually" ran my intellifex, and a coupla pedals when I just played guitar for effects.
Now the 4 space rack I use, (Cause it's small, and I drive a Mustang) has my power, In-ear transmitter (for my Mic), my mic wireless, and Intellifex as a mixer for my In-ear feed. I run a SM58 into one output (aimed at the band and my amp for the band feed), and my wireless mic output into the other, for my voice. I'm gonna ditch the Intellifex for a little Nady Mixer do do the same to free up the rack space.

So!

Amp head
2x12, maybe 2 if it's a larger venue...
4 space rack in front of me, for wireless/in ear-monitoring/channel switch pedal
Effects?!
If i build a small board, it's gotta be small enough to fit in the rack, for transport, this M9 even has a tuner, 3 pedals at a time......Maybe throw a Fulldrive in-line? Definately NOT using it as my distortion, I'm using my herd 50 watters for that!
Am i running a cable all the way out to the Effects loop? or slammin the front?

It's gotten complicated. I MUST run in-ears and the rack, It's how I sing best, now all the guitar rig too makes set up a challenge...

I need to buy a midget roadie! :gethim:

i love my M9, hasn't left the board since i put it on there

a ton of great sounds on there, albeit there are better sounding units out there which are maybe more expensive too, but in a mix you're not really going to tell, it's small size with a host of really good functions, also midi controllable if such a thing matters

great for tweaking on the fly, it's my swiss army knife on the board for sure, imo it's well thought out and easy to use

I almost got an M9 and one of those DAR preamp thingies instead of an Axe FX. My buddy has a "post rock" band (sounds like stoner metal and My Bloody Valentine or some shit) and uses the M9 on his board. They make some killer soundscapes... it's a great pedal and unlike most digital gear, it's simple to use, and actually tons of fun to play with.

After seeing a demo I did of the M5, a buddy went and got an M13 for his touring rig and doesnt know how he got along without it. He uses the different 'scenes' to switch channels on his amps and also got rid of all of his pedals. I say go for it. It's a great piece of gear.

I got my m13 last spring after years using the Boss GT series pedals. I auditioned the TC electronics nova system as well and while some of the mod effects in the nova were better I thought the delays and reverbs in the M series were on par. It's also the most user friendly thing I have ever encountered. Really is like having a bunch of pedals at your feet. If I could do it over again i'd probably just get the m9 as it's smaller and lighter but the m13 isn't going anywhere. Compared the the Boss units (I had the gt3-gt6 and gt8) the effects quality is night and day. Do it, perfect for a live guitarist.

Damn! Thanks for the responses! I'll still stick a quality boost out front, but the footprint is enticing. glad to hear the efx are on par. I'll do the intellifex at home for nit picky tone. Tnx!

Have you (or can you ;) ) tried any of the distortions or overdrives to boost an amp?
And, are you or your friend running it up front? Or thru the loop? Tnx...

i kinda prefer separate OD/boost pedals but the M9 ones are definitely decent

there are some demos out there:

I have had one (M13) for a year and a half or so. Its not my only pedalboard but its freakin cool. Swiss army knife and really handy to have. Gets along great with all my amps with a little level tweaking and if I ever need something special, I generally have it in there, good enough to get by at the least.

To answer the second question, I have run it all different ways - all in front (plexi), all in loop (uber), split between front and loop (Cameron 800, Splawn 1987, Uber). You can program where to insert the loop on the M13. In other words, you can have one effect in front and 3 in the loop, or 2 and 2, 3 and 1. Loop insert is prgrammable by scene (patch).

For OD's most ppl prefer the Tube Drive as do I. I also like the Line 6 drive straight into a clean channel. Analog chorus for a big dreamy tone, update includes a scriptphase model for EVH MXR phaser tone. Cool thing to have around. 2 expression pedal inputs as well.

Yes the boosts are actually very accurate sounding in front of an amp. The TS808 model is awesome. And my buddy uses the 4 cable method for his, so time-based stuff in the loop and the rest in front of the amp.

I had an M9 and it was great. I dumped all my pedals when I bought my Axe Fx though. It had a lot of great sounding effects and I especially loved the ADA flange.
