So I am at a bit of a crossroads here... I have never been a fan of multi effects units, nor have I ever owned one but last month, I moved into a rather small apt and finally out of my dads house (better late than never). Unfortunately, I am not sure the neighbors would like it too much if I cranked up my dual 6505s through the mesa cabs in the apt, so I am looking for something small and simple that I can play around with in the apt without getting the police called on me every 5 minutes by the elderly lady downstairs. My first thought was just get a 6505 1x12 combo, but then the more I thought about it, the more I start to think that knowing myself, I would end up cranking it to get that full tube saturation and it would just defeat the whole purpose of getting small practice amp lol!

I haven't used any Line 6 or Boss stuff in a long time, the last Line 6 product I owned was the original AX-2 way back when they first came out. And have only owned individual BOSS stomp boxes a few times over the years.

Does anyone have any experience with either the HD500X or the GT-100 and do either sound half way decent? Or does anyone have any other suggestions for something small and simple like this that I could plug my headphones into and jam without pissing off the neighbors?

Thanks!

iPad and JamUp/BIAS/Stompbox/Amplitube Orange.

Cheap, fun, sounds decent thru phones and easily recordable. I've been using this stuff for about a year and I'm happy with it....sounds loads better to me than the HD500 I had and way more intuitive to use....you can sit down with any of this stuff and dial up a usable tone in about 4 minutes flat, dude...I use it with 6, 7, and 8 string guitars and it hasn't let me down yet.

Also, if you want to line it out to your amp and cab and control the volume thru the iPad, you can.....sounds great thru a tube power section even at mouse fart volumes.

Orange amp sim for some sludge, done on iPad only:

One more, but with some other iPad stuff thrown in:

If your looking to go cheap I would consider a POD X3. I found it to be much more intuitive than the HD series and is great for silent practice. If you want to spend a lot more I would recommend a Torpedo CAB along with the pedal preamp of your choice (I'm assuming it has a headphone jack like the Torpedo Live).

As far as the Boss is concerned I haven't used any of their modelers since the GT 6 or whatever it was called. I haven't been real impressed with the GT-100 clips I have heard thus far. I do like Boss products in general because they are so user friendly.

Options to look at

The new evh 5150 1x12 combo with power scaling. The most expensive option, but will sound closest to the 6505

Another option is the Yamaha thr10x. You can get amazing tones out of this tiny modeling amp that has the basic effects bultin. Delay/chorus/verb, etc...

Check some of the videos on YouTube for this amo

Sorry I never responded, thanks for the suggestions. Mulling over them watching YouTube videos right now. Another one that got thrown into the ring has been the IRT-STUDIO by Laney which really has me intrigued but want to try one in person first to decide on that one as well as get some more info on it. the EVH5150 although they sound fantastic is just wayyyy out of my reasonable price range of $500 max. And I kind of want something that I can use to record scratch tracks at home silently when I have ideas.

I appreciate the help guys! I have many options to look over now.
