Ok,

been checking into these older Japan made Les Pauls from the late 70's early 80's.

What is the major difference between:

BURNY
GRECO
ORVILLE
ARIA

They all look like quality builds. Anyone have experience with these older Japan Pauls?
Which is more favorable?
Thanks!

For the price you can't beat an old Japanese les Paul. Only problem that I found common was the electronics like bad switch connections between pickups. But the stock pickups actually sound really good.

Grecos, Tokai, Orville all good.

The top 3 from the late 70s have a good reputation. Make sure any Japanese model you look at is set neck and not bolt on. As for Aria, the only experience I have with the brand is my 80's The Cat I had in high school. :)
To be honest Dan, the prices some of those old imports are bringing now are almost real Gibson prices and I'd go with a real one every time if I liked it.

Yeah thanks for the advice guys.

Wanted a Ace Frehley burst triple pickup. But cant touch them at all for under a grand by Gibson.
Just seen the older Japanese models were making them and they look great.
Still close to a grand though.

Fujigen made Orville with long tenon is the best.

Their Craftsmanship & Exotic woods rival Gibson Custom Shop.

They can be had from $800 to $1200.

Local guy here plays a old beat up Burny LP. Granted, he plays mostly ZZtop and the like, but damn it sounds good. His tone caught my attention one night and when trying to see if it was an epiphone or Gibson, I kept seeing what looked like 'Bunny'. WTF? Went up and talked with him between sets and he let me check it out. Very cool no like I said, sounded dead on for the vibe he was going for. When asked how much it was, he said he grabbed it from a local pawn shop years ago for 250$ I don't know about the others on your list but I can tell you that if you can find an older one of these, at a good price,,,do it!

Well I would rather go this route then an Epi. But I am out of my element with LP's.
Just like to get a decent one on the cheap to kick around once in a while.

Gina Epi made semi hollow like 335 ect are actually better made that Chinese Les Pauls as the Pauls are all veneer sides, back & top, the bodys are actually "Philippine Mahogany" which isnt Mahogany at all.

The semi hollows are Maple laminate.

All the Orvilles have a 60's style slim neck.

Thanks for that link Scott. Good info for sure!

No problem mang. In addition I'd say hit up Meestursparkle on eBay....also known as Dangerdog on MLP. Dude is in Japan but he's got a fuckin SPOTLESS record. If anyone has anything good it'll be him. He gives discounts if you're an MLP member too.

Whats sad is I was stationed in Japan for 10 years.

Bought a lot of cool Japan only guitars. But wasn't into Pauls back then.

I picked this one up a couple of years ago from Meestursparkle.....cool guitar. Was going to send it to Philtone to have it re-fretted with ss, pickups swapped out and keystone tuners put on but haven't gotten around to it yet. I think it's a mid to late 80's.

Interested?

Nice paul man!
Really want to hold out for a Ace Knock off 3 bucker.
But what kind of deal you talking? :D

Damn, I think he had one of those awhile ago too. He doesn't really list too much stuff on ebay anymore it seems.

I see about 3 of them on ebay right now. All in Japan.
That's what got me rolling on this thread.
I see tons of them CHIBSONS for about $300
but don't want to risk. Would rather pay double for an old Japan model.
Hell I would love the USA one. But my wallet says different. :D

I have 2 Fujigen Orville LP's & 2 Gibsons they're all great guitars.
