Been on the hunt recently for a Mesa Boogie vertical 2x12 to pair with my JP-2C. A kind fellow over on TGP contacted me about my WTB ad, we met up because he was local and now it's home with me. Unloaded but that's OK, I have the standard EVM12L and C90 combo on the way to fill the holes. I originally was shopping the newer ones with V30's but the more I read about these the more psyched I am to give it a try. I've never played the speaker game before and do have a Splawn 2x12 with V30's and it's a great cab but I must say the V30's aren't as exciting to me as I may have been led to believe. If anything they may be a little harsh to my ears. Will be interesting to see how different this ends up being.

Always thought these were cool cabs with half open/half closed.

Nice score!

I got the slightly newer (mid 90's probably) closed back version of this, that originally came with 2x Mesa V30. The Mesa V30's are a bit thicker and not as spikey sounding as the regular ones.
I've never heard the MC90, so I wonder how that will sound in the open-back portion.
Heck, maybe you could make a backplate out of, say 3/4" plywood (baltic birch), with some velcro (to easily go back and forth), to change it to more closed back.
Sure, it won't have the proper tight sealing as a cab that's built closed back, but a little experiment may go a long way in optimizing your tone.

Great cabs.. I have 2 of those & 2 of the 4x12... they have a great thump.

great cab-had it and the 4x12

just the look of it takes me back to a happy time??
