Looking at buying a used TM head Need HELP

The GC near me has a used TM head and I was going to take a look at it this evening.

I already bought a used TM 4212 Combo and had to return it because it kept on breaking down...

From what I have read on this forum there where problems with certain ones..

Any way to tell if this is a lemon via the serial number?

How do I tell how old it is?

I can't answer your questions, but I can say I have been beating the crap out of a 4212 for over two years with no problems. Mine is an older one with a handwritten "M" for modified on the serial number.

I am not sure I would buy used stuff from GC. I don't think they check it out much. I would trust eBay more, frankly.
