I remember that day.
I remember gigs. Back when people felt safe to go out at night. I hope we get them days back.
The one good thing my about Covid is it canceled late night gigs. At least in my area. Gigs end at 10pm at the latest. Before Covid gigs where 10pm - 2pm. I don’t miss getting home at 3:30amI remember gigs. Back when people felt safe to go out at night. I hope we get them days back.
For me this has been the trend over the last 10 years as the audience members have aged for the type of stuff I play. The latest gig I have done since 2019 ends at midnight but most end at 10pm. I suppose I could go back to low buck gigs downtown that run until 2 but with high gas prices and rip off parking it's just no longer worth it anymore. I spent 2k on parking in 2018 for 150 downtown gigs and the prices are even higher now unless you are willing to hoof it a half mile. Most gigs are 5-8 or 6-9. People just don’t want to go out late.
Every oil and gas man I've ever known loves it when gas prices are sky high and hates it when fuel is cheap. Yet most of them vote Republican so it doesn't make a lot of sense.Looking back on January 6, 2021, my Exxon stock was valued at $39 a share. Today it’s at $100 a share.

Yeah I target wineries and breweries so that's usually family types with little kids or drunk girls on wine tours. Bars that have live music pretty much end at 10 pm for music and the place is closed shortly afterwards. I try to avoid bars these days. I guess I'm getting old but I like to make money and the bars dont pay and the people that go to the bars don't tip.
Wow so if you have 3 guys in the band you're getting $450- $600 in tips ? Thats great.I've found it club dependent. Some of the clubs I am playing I am making 150-200 per man in tips over 3 hours. Other clubs I might make 50 for the whole band in tips. Feast or famine, business as usual. I became more selective after covid which means less gigs but more money per gig.
I have a monthly gig at a place with some generous benefactors who take care of me and the band with cash and tip bucket passing. I would say the average there is about 125-150 per man. Sounds good and would be if I could do that about 3x per week but the next best gig I might net $40 or $50 in tips per man, which ain't bad cause it covers gas. If you hustle you can make good tips in the Austin area at the right gigs. If you play country you can make an ok living. I don't play country, lolWow so if you have 3 guys in the band you're getting $450- $600 in tips ? Thats great.
