Looking for a beefier SG

My Sg has been my goto guitar for years now but yesterday I played a Les Paul Jr DC and loved the warmer more meaty tone of it. I play a mix of Sabbath/Allman Brothers and p90s just don't cut it. I Looked into the ESP Vipers as they seem like they would be what I'm looking for but they have a funky looking shape I'm not crazy about, I've only seen them in flat black, (ESP's not LTD's), which I don't like, and I hate Emgs. Not really looking for a Les Paul either which would be the obvious answer, not that I don't like them,(I love them), I just like the all mahagony stuff better. You guys Know of anything out there that might fit the bill?
 
I had the same issue as you. I have a local luthier here in SF building me a SG. He has my original 1967 SG that he is making a copy of but adding 25.5 scale and 24 frets. The SG will be made out of solid Korina with a set neck.

I decided to go with custom inlays and logo. If you want his info I can pass it along to you. Now would be the time to order since he is building mine based of my 67 Gibson SG as a template.

FYI it is costing me around 2k for everything. This luthier worked at Modulus for many years and made Phil Lesh's guitars.
 
Any of you SG fans try a Diablo? I LOVE their look and have been curious about them.......

+1 The double cut studios are killer, I've got 2 of em that I love. I think I saw an all mahogany studio archtop for sale over at the hamer forum recently. Plenty of all mahogany flattop specials out there too. Some of the best bang for the buck guitars around if you buy used.

Yep,and it is probably the fattest,biggest sounding SG on the planet :D I own a standard,Voodoo,Custom and the Diablo,I threw in a 500K volume and a set of MCPs Afwayus in there and BAMM!!!!
 
I like my Viper personally. It's been my number 1 axe for about 5 years now. I can understand someone not liking the funky shape though, especially when coming from using a traditional SG.
 
I thought of having something custom built but before I go that route I'd rather see if there is any other options. Those hamers are something I'll have to look into. I found this picture of a viper this morning I might pick one up and do this to it. Does anyone know if this guitar was a factory release or is it a custom done guitar? Maybe I can find one out there. I also noticed that the ltd line has vipers that look pretty nice and also have duncans in them. Does ESP offer vipers like those and I'm just not seeing them out there?

You're NOT helping me through the fact that I just found one of these the other day and am wanting to spend $$ I don't even have on it!
