Which boutique maker offers something similar to a DiMarzio Super Distortion? ...for that big fat 70's rock sound...tight bottom, fat mids and crunch. Just trying to see if there's something with the same vibe, but maybe a bit more organic. Thanks.

Why not just use the Super Distortion if that's the sound you want?

Well, it's not all the way there for me. Like I said, I'm looking for the same kinda vibe, but more organic. Plus, I'd like to get something w/ a vintage braided lead, and a nickel cover. DiMarzio doesn't offer those options.

Got ya. The BK Warpig has a similar eq curve and is said to have more clarity than most other high output buckers...might be worth trying.

I'd be more into the SD if it would clean up better, and maybe be a little bit less compressed...but I love the fat mids and the sizzle on top.

Man... the BK Warpig has 1.5 times the DC resistance of a Super Distortion. Can't imagine they'd sound too close...

I'm confused. The SD sounds pretty organic to me... How does it not sound organic to you? Just wonder what you mean...

DC resistance does not measure "hotness" or output although it can be a decent indicator (a Dimarzio X2N is waaaay hotter than a Tone Zone but has a lower DC resistance)...I know you know that. Two "hot" pickups with a similar eq curve would have a better chance of sounding similar than two pickups with the same resistance but different eq curves.

Organic is a terrible term to use for guitar tone since there's nothing remotely organic about any of it...perhaps it would be better suited for describing acoustics. I took it to mean that he's looking for something more dynamic/less compressed (seems to be how its typically used).

Yes, what Rupe said. I meant more open, more "alive"...if that makes any sense.
Organic = bad habit I've picked from reading forum posts over the years. Haha.
