Looking for a heavy amp to blend with a Marshall.

I’ve always been an amp blender guy and my fav has been my Marshall and an old rev 2 Uberschall. I actually had to fire up an old session this week and the guitars were insane. I solod the Marshall and then the Uber. Man they complimented each other. Clarity and mid attack with the Marshall and booty and gue from the Uber. I can’t find a rev 2. Is there anything else that would do the trick? Take the place of the Uber?
 
I had a Herbert and never warmed up it. It see other guys use it and it sounded great but I just couldn’t unlock the key. Also don’t those amps got for 4K? I’m not looking to spend that kind of dough.
 
played a PRS MT-15 earlier today, and I was surprisingly really impressed. Reminded me of an Uber meets Mesa Mark and for the price and weight it seems like a great option

ya missed the part about using it for big bottom, Recto :thumbsup:
 
Do like Adam Jones... Marshall Super Lead (modded Super Bass) + Diezel VH4
 
Man, I've always loved mixing a Mesa Recto with a Marshall for the exact same reasons you liked the Uber pairing with it.
 
It's pretty tough to beat a Recto and Marshall for "that" sound, especially at the price you can get a used Recto for. I'm sure you've had 100 of both, though.
 
If you've got the cash, a SLO and a JCM800 is pretty nuts.
An HR50+ and a JCM800 would kill.

This. James, I remember reading long ago posts when you first had a racktifier/Triple in a tonal comparison. With my triple, I can make it VERY SLOish with the right settings and a boost, or evil/dark...I have a really good 87 2210 that sounds every bit as massive as a good stock 2203, and that amp through a 76 Marshall GB cab mixed with my Triple through a Mesa V30 cab is the cat's ass. IMO. I just set the Triple a little darker than usual and to my ears the blend is pretty amazing.

You've been through enough amps over the years James with all your ampfest comparisons. You already know the Bogner does it for you and anything less than that is going to disappoint you and waste your time. Bogner tone is unique and unto itself, I don't think there is anything that emulates it. Maybe KSR but it is always called a blend of SLO and Recto modern low end tonal palates, but its tight, the Uber has a bit of Bogner sag IMO.

With that said there is a Rev 2 on Reverb right now... Just sayin..... :yes:
 
I've heard Engl is a good complement to a Marshall. Supposedly the guitar sound on the latest Saxon album is a Marshall / Engl mix
 
A bit different, what about an Orange thunderverb or even a Rockerverb?

I don't have as expensive of a setup, but my Splawn Promod or nitro sounds great with my Rockerverb.
 
Love playing my Mesa Rectoverb + Splawn Quick Rod at the same time

Saxons later stuff has amazing crunch and thump, it would make sense that it's an ENGL :rock:

Thought I might be the only SAXON fan left, can't believe how much they still rock out.

This is the first thing I thought of as well.

There's also the VH4 or maybe even the 5150?

Yep, I'd go Recto.
 
I agree with harddriver. A Bogner with a Marshall type amp (ala' Jerry Cantrell), is the way to go. I think the differences in each help compliment the other and fill in those spaces. I do think a Recto and Marshall is a good pair as well. I just think the key is to get a more low end amp paired with something that focuses more on the highs.
