so i am looking for a new amp and this is on UG as well. but i think i have it down to a few and am looking for some further ideas. but the main contestents are here:

Budda Superdrive 30
Bogner Shiva
Valvetech Hayseed (but nobody has played one that i know)

i realize that the aforementioned amps are a little different, but i like all three of them.
i don't want to go over $1500 ideally around ~$1200, i am pretty good at finding good deals and am patient i only buy used.
it will be used for blues and blues rock. i have plenty of decent pedals to boost if in need.
i play various gibsons, ibanez prestiges and wolfgangs. i don't ever use SC's so a good bucker tone is what i need.

and the question of the hour, has anybody played a valvetech hayseed?

i suppose i should list my amps.
Splawn Nitro
Splawn ProMod
VHT sig:X
Mesa MKIV
Orange Dual Terror
18 watter i built
JTM45 that i built but its down at the moment
Lee Jackson Ampeg down at the moment and i have other priorities at the moment.
Music Man HD212 160watt (model with tube PI, thoroughly refreshed).
heavily modded Sovtek MIG50
i also have a hybrid ampeg that i don't know the model of (1x12") that i don't know
and i probably forgot one or two.
Randall Century 100 (does more than just dime)

thanks and cheers.

The only one from you list I've played is the Budda, but it does the dark liquid thing. I really dug it. Great tone and feel.

Bogner XTC

Egnater 3/4 module or the rack preamp it was based off of.

You should easily be able to achieve that particular sound with your Mesa/Boogie MarkIV.

Mk V ch2 mk1 setting seems more muddy than dark to me. I have to crank the treble and pres, roll back the bass to 0 and play with the mids then boost the mid treb on the geq. Still playing with ch 2. Haven't found liquid like the XTC or 3/4 of Egnater

My uber rev blue was more gnarly/liquid than my ch2 MkV.

How is what you get from the Mark IV different than what you are looking for?

I was going to say Mark series when I saw "liquid..." but you already have one.

He said for blues/blues rock though so I wouldn't want to use a mark for that. Shiva will definitely do it (and probably best of what you listed), budda will do it too but I actually find them kinda bright. Haven't played the valvetech.

I'd set up the R1 on the Mark IV for max gain and use a boost. That's the only way I ever liked that channel - flat out.

The Hayseed is an AC30 style amp, not exactly what I think of when I think dark.

You might check out the Carvin Legacy. A bit dark with Marshall flavor, great mid to modern gain. I think Rian (edguy) has a couple vids that cover the ground well. Also it's way cheaper than a Bogner so if you don't like it you aren't sitting on a spendy piece.

Used Boogie Roadster... dark and liquid. Vintage mode.

Orange Rockerverb 50

I dunno...mine can do blues and rock no prob. I suppose there might be better amps for that sound though.

damn. thanks for all of the responses, i will try to answer everything.

i would love a XTC, but they are out of budget.

to the MKIV owner who dimed the first channel straight, i do that to the second channel for my main metal tone on the amp, i will try that with the first channel as well, but i am not going to adjust any of the common knobs, i want to keep my second channel as is. i have the third channel set up for more LOG stuff.

now regarding the budda, i have heard probably a dozen people say its dark and one person ('63 strat) say its bright, i will look around more. i have really liked them though.

and i also heard somebody say the Shiva would do it best, and from clips (unfortunately never played on) its my favorite, just they are at the top of the price range and i want to think for a little while if that is worth it.

i haven't played a MKV, but love my MKIV and am not looking to go the the MKV i played one, i am sure with some more time it is different. when i tried out a MKV i wasn't sold on it and although it definetly did some things better, i think the IV gives me what i want (i only paid $875 for the long head and its mint, with brand new tubes and a recap). don' get me wrong the V's are awesome, just not worth the price they go for, and again for me it wasn't really night and day difference, some channels were better but i liked some things about the MKIV better.

i nearly landed a blue stripe iii but i missed it. i was pissed, it was sold like an hour before i called. and i will get one that pops up someday.

also to the mention of the hayseed being AC15 and AC30, based amps, i know. i have kind of wanted something voxy for a while, and i know completely different than the others.

the rockerverb is an excellent idea, i was considering it at one point, but it kind of got eliminated.

i think its pretty much down to a bogner shiva or budda superdrive as it has been for a while, i am getting consistent feedback on both of them for the tone i am seeking.

the only thing that could get mixed in there would be a MKiii depending on stripe and cash, but i would probably still get a shiva or superdrive eventually anyways.

but i want to know if anybody has played a hayseed.

thanks everyone

that does sound pretty damn good. i would mix it up with various amps, but what amp would you use with it?

i have done lots of tweaking amp and OD pedal possibilites. i think i found what i am looking for (still doesn't mean i wont get an amp), a Zendrive in front of a Music Man HD212 130w (i have the model with the tube phase inverter) and the amp has been gone over from a tech recapped and new tubes, the zendrive can darken it enough, leave the bright off lower the treble a lot on the amp, second jack and i am getting it to sound pretty smooth on the first channel (non trem channel). i don't think i needed as much gain as i did because the zendrive worked great with the music man, and the zen drive is pretty low drive.

also as far as the MKIV i have been switching pedals back and fourth, the timmy is the magic for channel two (high gain) and on the first channel i am using a MI audio blues pro stacked with the timmy. pretty satisfying as well for another gain. the pedals work well with channel one.

however keep in mind that tihs was all between 2am to 4am (currently at 4am) i will get the volume up tomorrow and get to more tweaking.

the mkiv takes pedals like a champ.

the zendrive also plays nicely with the Music Man, even though it has a SS preamp.
