Hey everyone! Long time lurker here (rarely post).

Looking for a recommendation for my next guitar. I've currently got a couple of guitars with non-trem bridges, but for my next acquisition I'm looking for a Floyd equipped guitar with a decent locking tremolo (no FR "Specials", no Kahlers, no Wonderbars, etc).

Budget right now is $800, and I'd prefer to purchase used if possible.

The only guitars I know that fit that bill are the LTD EC-1000FR, LTD MH 1000, and the PRS SE Custom 24 Floyd. As I understand it they are all equipped with the Floyd Rose 1000 (Gotoh) bridge.....which (from my own experience) is a surprisingly decent locking trem.

I know there must be others out there....just not sure what they are.

Any recommendations?

I've always dug the LTD stuff. I have a bunch of American guitars, a Warren DeMartini Charvel, Gibsons, a Clapton Strat, etc. but one of the best guitars I've ever played in my life was an LTD I got for around $400 brand new. I think it was an EC-400 or something like that? Stayed in tune, played unbelievable, zero noise, etc., etc. I should have never sold that guitar.

Ibanez prestige or a Jackson MIJ with a new trem. You can get a Schaller lockmeister for under $150 and them suckers are bullet proof. You can still find pro series MIJ Jacksons for under $300 readily.

I have five ibanez prestiges and four MIJ Jacksons, and they are both great. Buy the one that you like the neck profile better.

FIY all of my Jacksons are EMG equipped and all of my ibanez have various sets dimarzio's.

+1
I had an ec400 hardtail in the early 00s and loved that thing- rock solid intonation and tuning stability, always 100% and played/sound great. Flipped it. Just like everything else I've owned, lol

I also had a really nice EC400. Kicked major ass for me. Then I bought an EC1000 and it was honestly no better. Then I bought an EC401, total GARBAGE. they moved factories in that gap. The EC400 was the best of the bunch for me. I sold them all and moved on. No regrets for me. I am more of a traditional LP guy AND more of a superstrat Guy than the hybrid of the two.

Yep.....same experience here. Had an LTD EC-1000 several years ago. It played unbeleiveaby well and stayed in tune even with agressive bar use. Stupidly sold it.

It might very well be what I pick up this time around too.

Second vote for a Charvel, does what it should

I’ve been eying the Pro-Mod, but wasn’t sure which model Floyd was on it. None of the local retailers stock those things, so I haven’t been able to try one out.

I owned a Japanese Jackson SL1 in the early 2000’s. I threw a set of Dimarzio’s in it, and it quickly became one of the best playing/sounding guitars I’ve owned......but honestly I feel like I’m outgrowing the pointy headstock thing. Superstrat is OK.....but nothing too pointy...LOL.

I can still live with the pointy headstock. It's not too bad. Not as bad as Dean and BCR (neither of each would i ever buy) its better than the kramer banana. Lol.

I want to start a collection of MIJ Charvels. May even dump one prestige to get me the financial boost.

Isn't that crazy? You, Pentatonic, and I all had a similar experience with a solid guitar and then the others being a disappointment. That right there is why I like to play guitars in a store unless I know alot about the guitar.

I'm a traditional LP guy as well and then always like to have a superstrat laying around. My USA Charvel Warren DeMartini "Frenchie" in black is a perfect guitar to cover that need. Like most musicians though, I have an addiction and always want more of whatever it is. LOL. I have a Gibson Les Paul Classic that I thought was a Standard when I got it used. Plays so good that I don't even care. Had Buckeyedog here on the forum put some 2nd Degree Blackbelts in it and it is just a solid guitar.

So this is what I ended up pulling the trigger on this morning. Decided the resale value on this would be a little better.....plus he came down $100 on the price.

Thanks. I've been watching for these, but they rarely surface in decent shape....and even fewer equipped with Floyds.
