So I'm kind of in the market for a new guitar amp head I have my Mesa dual rectifier revision f it sounds pretty awesome but it's just a tad bit - heavy not exactly playing death metal. I'm honestly looking for something in between the Dual rectifier and the crate stealth I just sold. I've been looking at the Rivera M100 I've also been looking at a Rivera knucklehead I'm not a fan of the ones that came after the original. I'm also looking at the Peavey Ultra Plus and a couple different laney heads. Let me know what you guys think or if you have possibly better suggestion I'm looking for something that'll sound good on my Peavey 6505 cab which could be a challenge LOL.

- What budget?
- What features (reverb, # channels, loop)?
- What sound (name a few bands)?

Go to GC.com. They have 2 or 3 JCM 800s for 650-750. 2 combos and a head, all worn a bit and the head is funky looking with different tolex. But throw a pedal or two in front and one could be your nice new contrast to the rec. Stealths are cool, can't find a better amp for 150-300 IMO..but they ain't an 800.

Are you talking about the original Rivera knucklehead the had the controls on the top(tubes pointing down)? I know a bro locally that has one for sale. Pm me and I can hook you up with him if you want.

The budget is anything from a dollar to about fourteen fifteen hundred bucks I play mostly Metallica hard to walk around 80s stuff some newer hard rock/metal like drowning pool and Godsmack very little Seven string guitar modern metal the only feature I'm really looking for is that it is in good condition and well maintained. I have considered starting a collection and head to be a marshal 800

I've owned several Rivera M100s, an M60 and an original Knucklehead 55. The K55 definitely had more of a JCM800 vibe than the M series. The M series is more akin to a Mesa Mark style amp. When you dial them in, they sound killer. However, they take time to dial in, and there are a lt of not so good tones along the way. The Knucklehead was much easier to get great tones out of. With that said, if you can dial it in and run the volume up (they like to be loud) the M100 is a good amp.

The thing that's irritating with a dual rectifier is there is soo much brutality there's not much tone to work with the eq

I have a Laney gh100l and it is like a really pissed off JCM 800. Put a boost on it and it slays. If you can find one cheap, go for it. As far as 6505s go, I recently got a 6534+ in trade and it sounds great, a bit of a different sound from Peavey without losing the "Brootz" that the 6505 is known for.

Honest question. Are you only using the red channel? I freaking LOVE the green channel overdriven or with the crunch engaged.

Recently tried a 6505 plus and I liked it but those clipping diodes ewww or whatever holds that beast back

I'd spend some more time dialing in the Recto differently. They're not exactly known for being one trick death metal ponies. Rectos do a lot of things very well, and should easily cover the genres/bands you mentioned.
