My guitar collection lacks any sort of fixed bridge guitars, aside from my classical and acoustic guitars.

I would like to find a new guitar that has the following qualities for a range around 1-2k.

24 frets.
6 string
fixed bridge(or any style that i don't have to adjust for on the spot alternate tuning)
prefer strat style
larger frets
thinner neck
humbuckers
locking tunerS

I could care less who makes it or the name that's on it, only what its made with and how well it was made.

My go to guitar has been a Ibanez 3550mz for the last year as a reference to what i have been playing.

I could be ok with used, but i have never honestly bought one so it would have to be puuurty and fit like A GLOVE

The Jackson SL2HT is a string thru, 2 hum, 24 fret guitar, and you could find a used one for between 1 and 2k.

Jackson SL2HT would be a good bet, but more than 2K brand new (and don't come with locking tuners).

A great new option would be a Carvin. Lots of options that you can choose from and the quality is very solid.

   But custom shop takes sooo long!

as far as the jackson goes i can always swap some tuners, once its over the 1k mark i have no problem working on and dropping money into an instrument. I have never been lucky enough to run into any of the variations on Jacksons real deal geetars.

Edit: I take that back. my store has had one hanging on a wall forever about 20 feet up , i have never even bothered to ask about playing

Side note. I named my dog jackson for this company ahah

Keep an eye on Carvin's guitars in stock section if the 4-6 week wait is too much for you. Your specs aren't super exotic so it's pretty likely something will pop up that fits your specs. http://www.carvinguitars.com/guitarsins ... ic-guitars

It's only a 4-6 week wait ? I thought for some reason it was more 3-4 months.

I will keep an eye on the built models as i imagine a jackson sl2ht is gonna be a bitch to even find. a used one, let alone one that doesn't have a 300 dollar finish on it.

Just double checked and it looks like they are quoting 6-8 weeks at the moment. I've seen it as low as 4-6 at some points though. It just depends on their volume I suppose.

I do have some solid respect for carvin, and have a plan for a bells and whistles build. I will keep my eye open for a in stock guitar.

Anyone picked up any cookie cutter factory guitars that even come close? Im willing to budge on the 24 frets if anyone has any models in mind.

What do you guys think of the suhr modern satin? Can i tune a 510 on the fly?

What about the price point? I have read some people dislike that it doesn't have SS frets, but i hear SS frets are string killers.

I love Modern Satins and own two myself! I've got a Tremol-No installed on both which enables me to go from floating to dive only or to hardtail. That's all you need for on the fly tuning when having a floating trem. And BTW, the Satins do come with SS frets. The only time they didn't was during the first introduction of the Satin...during the first couple of months, but then they quickly changed them to SS. FWIW, I prefer SS frets.

I didn't know that all the satins came in SS frets, I personally after reading up a little more find ill pay more in strings to keep my guitar the way it was made for as long as possible. I never thought about a temel no, i forgot that it doesn't have a locking nut!

TBH i was almost sold on a modern satin regardless, Now i wonder if i should opt for the gotoh 510 or maybe the OFR. Never touched a gotoh, but people seem to rave like they belong in a Suhr.

EDIT: Do you know of any identifying dates or model numbers to tell the frets apart
by?

Well, I know it's a very small percentage. I wanna say the Satin came out in late '12 or sometime in ’13. The only handful that could have nickel frets would appear on "The Natural" Satin model from this time era....the red and black satins will all have SS frets.....and that goes for the majority of "naturals” as well. '14 & ’15 models will definitely have SS frets, regardless of which satin you come across. Just know that if you're looking at picking up a natural satin and its a couple of years old....that will be the one that you really need to verify if it has SS frets. I've got 510’s on my Moderns....just not a Floyd guy anymore.

An Ibanez Prestige RGA121 is an awesome guitar. Doesn't have locking tuners but the things stays in tune. The build quality is excellent.

I feel the floyd thing as long as i have had them, i almost never use them in the way they were designed to be used. Nothing more than a little bit of vibrato, and some occasional harmonics i like to make sing. That shouldn't be a deal on the years then. I probably dont want much older than a14' anyway.

Good advice, Thank you
