Lower gain tubes in 6505+?

Who has tried out lower gain preamp tubes in their 6505+ and what did you find when you did?

I have a modded 6534+ that im running a 12AT7 and a 5751 along with some JJ 12ax7s to try and dial down the lead channel a little bit
Current lineup in the roll
V1: JJ ECC83s (share gain stage)
V2: EH 12AT7 (Lead gain stage)
V3: JJ ECC83s (FX loops buffer)
V4: Sovtek LPS (phase inverter)
V5: JJ 5751. (Lead cathode follower)
V6: JJ EC83s (rhythm gain stage)

JJs always break up early and harshly to me, swap those out as well. I wouldn't go lower gain, I'd just try another make. Sometimes it is all just about V1, focus on that and see if you get closer to what you are seeking.
