Has anyone been lucky enough to compare any one of these together and opinions?

I picked up this LTD explorer up recently for $145 and will say it's pretty good. Sounds really good and plays well too, very similar to my Gibson goth explorer. I was surprised how good the LTD is compared to my Gibson actually...

Sight unseen I'd put both ESP's over Gibson before they started pleking, just better QC.

Some people are ESP snobs, I'm not. Have had 3 LTD's, two great and one turd, but even the turd plays great and stays in tune.

That said, I have two newer Gibson Explorers that are plek'd. One has a crap Chinese Floyd, but is otherwise pretty damned solid, other is the Bill K which is great and equal to or even better than even the full on ESP.

If you can find an old used Explorer that plays, then cool. But plenty could use a good luthier.

I'm not a fan of the new Hetfield Explorers and that name is god awful but ESP guitars are hard to beat... With an older Gibby I'd make sure you played it first

Oh, and if you're talking about that white 84 reissue they did. Then tread lightly and for sure play before buying, lots of people weren't too happy when they got thiers. Lots of QC issues on those, which was a bummer, as guys were really stoked when they came out.

If you can deal with a Floyd and just have to have white, then there's a model that's only a couple years old that's a good guitar other than the crappy Chinese Floyd.

I have the ESP Snakebyte.
Great Guitar and different than the LTD version. The Neck shape is different and the tone.
Don´t get me wrong the LTD is a great guitar but the ESP is better

I own an esp Snakebyte. If you are a metallica fan and like the look you will love the guitar. If you can afford it get the esp version you won't regret it!

do you know what the difference is between the "SS" and "K" serial numbers?

SS is for signature series I believe and K is now for the kiso custom shop. Starting in 2013 esp's are custom shop orders. The 2011 and 2012's should have SS serial numbers and everything after should have a serial number starting with k.
