There was a guy near me who ran a completely custom repair and build shop and was awesome, but he retired.

Anyone have a recommendation for a similar guy?

I have a bolt-on Strat type guitar and I'd really like a new neck built for it. It would have to be completely custom (22 fret 7-string neck with a 2 9/16" width at the last fret). No vendors offer anything off the shelf for something like this.

Brent Gutierrez in the manufacturer's forum here.

Cardinal, didn't you have the 7 string that Rondo Music used to sell? I'm kind of surprised more companies don't make a traditional strat 7 string.

I use to. I sold it and wish I hadn't.

I have several other 7-string Strat types. One is a Musikraft parts build. The others are essentially one-off customs of varying quality.

This particular one sounds and plays great, but my request for a 2 9/16" wide heel was unfortunately not executed.

In any event: if you are interested in traditional 7-string Strats, please email Rondo Music. He is likely to bring back that Guitar if he's convinced there's interest and it'll sell. He recently is doing another run of the 7-string Tele, for example.

I would buy one right now. I will email.

I thought he stop building guitar. In 2018 I sent him a message and no return. Does he building guitar now?
He got sick real bad, hospitalized twice, then Covid twice.... he's been having a rough go at it. He is slowly getting back to building again, his backlog of repairs got pretty big while he was sick, and he's been chiseling away at it. He's doing much better these days, and I'm hoping he'll start taking orders again soon.

No he shouldn't...the only thing gary has that Brent doesn't is a PLEK machine.

I used to live near SF and heard some amazing things about Gary and some horror stories. If I still lived there I'd seriously consider it, but now living across the country, probably not.

Exactly, I know both but am doing my best to keep it positive...let's just say it sounds like you know gary and leave it there.

Good to hear he is doing better!!!

They used to have an in-house guy there that would sell his builds at the shop. They were pretty cool.
I'm not saying they weren't cool, there's better and more consistent people. I have no issue with the PLEK machine?

I can highly recommend Eric Bauer in the Chicago area (GguitarGearForum member"Endtime") - not sure if he'd be willing to take on that job but he's absolutely capable of it.

I bought this beast he built and I've also sent him a neck to re-fret in the past:
