Lynyrd Skynyrd Quits

Might has well have quit after the crash as far as I'm concerned. My guess is that this is about a money grab. They'll be back on the road in a year. Rush is about the only one that seems legit.

I always figured that it's been a money grab ever since the 80’s....Johnny Van Zant sure has made a nice living off of his brother's coat tails! They should have just called it a tribute band way back then.

--OR--
-- shouldn't be legal to use a bands name when then key figures are no longer in the band, dead or alive--

With all due respect I all think of when I think of Skynyrd is that they are one the greatest true 100% American bands ever.

I watched a movie last week about them on SLING about entire history of the band I was blown away.

I'm going the the Tampa show hands down.

Thats a hard one... I agree and disagree at the same time... following up after the crash with new members not sure I would have kept the name... but as a reunion after XX amount of years with new members/brother etc thats totally cool. Really depends on the band I guess. Like if Geddy Lee died after the first six albums, replacing him with another guy who can sing, play bass and keyboards wouldn't really work as Rush in my eyes.

I agree one of the greatest true 100% American bands ever as well. They were "Murica" before people were saying murica

-one of the few bands that could sing a bout drinking & not sound hoakie-
-at the risk of feeding into there already huge ego and enabling even more "Singer-Itus" they're the majority of the band then comes the song writer then the guitarist usually the rest are interchangeable

One of the best Behind the Music episodes I've ever seen. That band had heartache in spades. Man the crash, the drug overdoses, the diseases. Those guys were the original road dogs. The one thing about the band is that they have brought past members and family member into the band to try to keep it tight knit. Skynryd rocks but if some of you younger guys haven't heard them, give "Blackfoot" a listen. Man I love that band!

The singer in my band is related to Rickey. Gotta catch them this year before it's too late.

I love the original band myself. All the guitarists during that era were just fantastic for what they brought...Rossington, King, Collins, and Gaines. Ronnie was the perfect front man for that group. Great lyrics in many of those songs. One of the greatest American bands.

I love the music and agree they are a classic band. That said, they should have just stopped after the crash or just called it Gary Rossington and friends.

They did for awhile; Rossington Collins Band. I saw them on the first tour after the Lynyrd Skynrd crash; they ended the night with an instrumental version of Freebird, and spotlights for each of the members lost in the crash IIRC.

I saw Blackfoot around that time too, could have been on the same bill, many southern rock bands were active and sharing the bill, ZZ Top, Blackfoot, Ozark Mount Daredevils, Black Oak Arkansas, Charlie Daniels Band, Pure Prairie League, Jonathan Edwards, forgetting a few it's been awhile lol
