Looking to get into recording and wondering which one to go with for ease of use and not breaking the bank.

How many instruments do you intend to record at once? Do you need mic preamps included?

A good, low budget solution for just recording one guitar direct could be the Line 6 POD Studio GX. It comes with Line 6 modeling software also. $99 new.

If you want to be able to mic up something--vocals or a guitar amp--the Focusrite Scarlett Solo could be a good option. Decent Focusrite preamp on board, record direct or a microphone. Minimal but gets the job done at home. Presonus also has some decent options in the $99-150 price range.

If you want to record more instruments simultaneously and at low budget, Behringer has a Firewire interface that has 8 preamps and has gotten some decent reviews. You can also find a used PreSonus FirePod or similar.

If you're looking for higher end than that, I'd recommend asking this question on Gearslutz, but I'd strongly recommend starting slow and figuring out how serious you are about recording as an art. It's a hobby that will make guitar GAS seem trivial.

I've been looking at the Scarlett Solo...I like the idea of being able to mic something up as well

yep this is what I use into my mac for recording "quiet" guitar. I also run a yamaha audiogram (https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-Audiogram ... B001F21RJ0) for vocals and keyboard.

I just use reaper for my DAW

Cheap set up that works perfectly for what I need

I got an Alesis iO2 Express when I got my iMac a few years ago. The Alesis was around $80. I never used the included DAW (cubase maybe?). Since getting the iMAC I have only used Garage Band as my DAW.

The Alesis iO2 Express has 2 mic inputs and a couple line inputs, it's fine for recording a mono or stereo signal from a single instrument at a time. I record my synths direct to line inputs of the iO2, guitar via an SM57 mic connected to the one of the mic inputs, and bass direct from a speaker emulated line out on my amp. I have also used the iO2 for MIDI input when controlling software synths. I haven't had any problems so far.
