i like mahogany body/maple top + maple neck/rosewood board with EMG

but i was wondering how a mahogany body(no top) will sound with a maple neck/board? any experience?

Jim root sig strat is mahogany and has a maple board version. Probably some vids on the tube.

I’ve had way too many guitars and can’t for the life of me tell if wood choice on any part of the guitar makes any predictable difference in how it’ll sound.

That's my take. There are some general differences here and there with different woods and different mixtures, but specific instruments just are what they are and aren't super predictable. Also, by the time I start tweaking electronics, amps, etc. it seems like most them can be made to sound good in some way, or they just can't seem to do anything I want in any way (but only rarely).

Basically, I think we obsesses too much over wood choice for sound. I think it's mostly about appearances, at least past a certain point.

There's no way to tell until you play it through your rig. But in my experience, probably very similar to the guitar you have.

Generally speaking, it depends if the FB is finished. A thick hard finish over the frets will generally have more high end sparkle than Indian RW because it stiffens the fret/surface-fiber structure. It may not sound "brighter" though. Brightness is associated with 2~5kHz upper-midrange. Maple may actually absorb more in that range than Indian RW, depending on the comparative cut of wood and the oil or resin content. There really is no way to tell just how a guitar will sound until you try it. I've had all Maple Necks of the same model that sound quite different.

I have this combo in a Charvel. It is one of the Music Zoo Naturals. Mahogany body unfinished - just oiled and unfinished maple neck and board. I love it. I have had JB, BK Holy Diver and now EMG's. Its not my fattest sounding guitar - kind of focused tone I would say. Also, it is very heavy weight wise for a super strat. But its a great guitar.
