Did nothing for me. For a $289 pedal I was suffering from some bad buyers remorse. Did not want to return the pedal and be a d-bag so I just left it on my pedalboard next to my Analogman modded TS9......and used the TS9 instead. I was hoping to boost the blue channel of my 100 watter but I just did notdig the results. Felt a bit miffed actually.

So today I plugged into my Splawn Nitro for the first time in months. I goosed it with the Majik Box and honest to god could not put my guitar down. Shredded my rear end off for three hours. Completely got lost in the " guitar zone".......when you lose track of time and forget about your surroundings.....Yep thats where I was.

Its an expensive pedal and I sure did not dig it with the 5153 but if you can try the rocket fuel in front of a Splawn or el34 based amp I bet you have multiple eargasms.

Cool man, i really dig mine too.

Like you said, it is great with certain amps. I had a Soldano Avenger when i bought mine (like 3 years ago, maybe) and it didn't impress me. Then i sold the amp and bought a modded Marshall (Golub Lead Mod) and it is AWESOME with that one. Especially with a Strat.

I'm currently looking at this one and the fuzz universe (which seems tighter and cleaner on the OD side) and a koko boost. For me it is straight into EL34/KT77 MArshall based circuits or my 2204's. Does this thing keep the voicing of the amp but add more gain? I find the gain of the SD-1 to be in the ballpark of where I want to go but I don't like how much it cuts through as i already set my amps relatively on the bright side.

I goose all of my amps with it (Cameron, VHT, Baron) with excellent results. I do not use it to add gain per se, only clean boost. Part of the magik in this little box is how it adds clarity to the distortion, and a luscious "chuggy" bottom end, which can be tailored using the bass-shift switch. I find the Rocket Fuel to be very transparent and I've never noticed it to any of its own flavour to my tone.

i tried a couple of boosts with the 5153 and couldn't get anything to make the blue channel better

I like a Maxon TS9 Analogman modded pedal the best but still would like something else.

Im necromancing my own thread. After several months with this pedal I have given up on it. It makes my tone muddy no matter what I set it to. Its very odd and I have held onto it thinking user error but there's not much tweaking to be done.

Sounds way better with Splawn but at gig volumes the mud creeps in. I think Im sticking with my BB and Analogman TS9.

When we had an amp fest a few years back had a few different amps and we had about 5 different Over drive pedals.
I was shocked how some sounded GREAT with one amp....and like a turd with another??
SUPER noticeable. One of the best ones out there was that Bad Monkey.
It sounded good with all the amps.
I use a Timmy clone and it works perfect on my Recto.

check out the KOT (King of Tone) Analog Man pedal. Awesome.

Sat on a waiting list for 2 years for that pedal ! Got it…….kept it for 2 years……sent it back to have more gain added to one side of it….still hated it….sold it.

Maybe I just don't gel with expensive pedals ????
