Major antivirus help needed

Ok, so I got some major Malware from somewhere (cue porn remarks) and got it removed, but there is shitloads of spyware and such on my computer slowing my comp down by 50% and my internet by close to 40%. I've run adaware and spybot, but they dont detect anything...I'm running an older version of norton, but it hasnt detected anything....

any other good programs to help me sniff out the bad files and such?

Avast! or AVG.

Scan in safe mode. You can't delete stuff that's already running.
 
Yeah, that POS is probably what's slowing you down, not adware, hence your inability to detect it.
 
I'm downloading the free file above. Avast got rid of a lot of files on the two hard drives I have on this computer. 1300 some files :shocked: if I remember right. but my comp is still saying there are a lot of spyware and adware applications running saying its slowing down the computer.

It did get rid of the Win32 Trojan :2thumbsup: it looks like so far, havent seen that issue popping up in my sys tray.
 
You can add Ccleaner to your list as well. Not actually an anti-virus but a disk/registry/startup menu cleanup tool. It helps get rid of all sorts of crap, dead ends, and other useless memory eating junk.
 
Get rid of norton, its probably slowing you down more than the spyware
 
does avg free deal with spyware too? and is the free version at least as good as norton?? :aww: i downloaded Avast and it found a few things. but my computer is running slower now.
 
I think it got all the spyware, I ran, Avast, AVG, Ccleaner. Got rid of lots of old files and all, but my comp is running extremely slow :no: ...

Any remedies? not sure why, it doesnt say any spyware and none of the programs find anything...I've turned off as many as the virus programs as possible...but still...I'm playing cribbage with my girl and I clicked on Mozilla to open up, and I played a whole hand before it was open... :confused:
 
Try windows defender from microsoft, if you haven't yet.

Try to restart the machine, see if it's still slow, ctr+alt+del->task mananger->check what's running
 
only application running is Firefox, processes are at 30 processes. I'll try that program as well...

+1000.

Reboot in safe mode, run Avira Anti-Vir (my personal favorite) or Avast (almost as good). Remove Norton. If it's Norton 2003 or earlier, you're basically boned as there's not a good way to completely remove it other than logging in as the SYSTEM user (NOT recommended!!!) and removing everything manually. 2004 and everything after are no problem.

I've used this on many older computers that run less than 1 GB of RAM and it works marvelously well.

But if it were me I'd just wipe the hard disk and install Linux. Much less headache in the long term. :rock:

There is a "CPU" column when you check running processes, see which process(es) is using more than 0.
 
If I install Linux, which I've thought about in the past, how involved is it? and will I lose files I have now?

Um, no offense, but if you're having issues just getting rid of spyware, I wouldn't move to Linux....
 
google trend micro housecall, then follow the directions ( i always use the "browser plugin" option).

this has always got rid of anything for me...
