Ok, I'm going to post 3 clips of all the same song. One is all Mesa, one is all Mako, one is combined. Don't rate the mix...it was done REALLY quick. All instruments are me 2 tracks on each of the seperate amps and 4 on the combined (2 of each). A single Sennheiser e609 was used. My USA Schecter Avenger with Duncan Custom pickup. The Mesa is boosted, the mako is not.
Mesa:

Mako:

Combined:

Interesting. It's a hard choice for me. There's characteristics of each that I like. I liked the recto more than the mako clip overall but Mako has a richer character it seems.

Combination though is by FAR the best of the 3 though. The first 2 clips sound very different and good in their own ways so combo is kind of like combining best parts. I likey

The kick and snare in there are really giving me a hard time to discern differences in the tones. I know you said don't comment on the mix, but it was really tough for me to concentrate on the guitar tones, they sound good, I just can't concentrate enough on the differences with the kick & snare drilling thru my skull ;)

I feel the exact same way :) On the recording anyways....as a live amp I'd pick the Mako 10 out of 10 times.

I'm definitely preferring the mako clips after numerous listens. The mesa sounds dull in comparison, think a bogner Uber could fill in the low end on the track like the mesa and not sound so dull and kinda muddy?

I'm a weird guy man.

Biggest thing that gets to me (besides the drums being pretty heavy in the mix) is that the Mesa isn't as loud as the Mako. The Mesa sounds thin in comparison, as well. Overall, it sounds like all the clips need a bass guitar to fill everything in.

Yea, the Mako is a touch louder than the Mesa in the mix but, a lot of it has to do with the mid structure of the Mako makes it cut better. The drums are mixed way to loud...especially the snare. And yes, the Mesa has this hollowness I can't dial out. I've just sold it in attempts to purchase a Bogner Uberschall asap :)
