Malmsteen and Morse having some fun

I wish the video was better quality, but cool none the less.
It shows me that Morse could easily fill any spot Yngwie has, but the same is not true the other way around.
Morse put on the Pwnage

awesome, 2 of my all time favorite players - sounds like they're having a good time!

Yngwie sounds really motivated and fresh and wow Morse is such a monster as well.

Awesome find!

that was cool, yngwie always has great tone. and i dont get why so many people say they like his tone but then will say they cant play a guitar with just single coils, weird. thanks for posting

Yngwies tone and vibrato really outshine Steve in this clip

In fact at the moment I'm hard pressed to think of another rock player that gets such big crunch and lead tones with classic gear

I just loaded my YJM pickguard in my Yngwie clone and damn I was not expecting those pups to be as low output as they are, even with some gain working they really make you work harder to put good lines together.

No wonder he is known for daisy chaining YJM308s together.

They're too low output for me. Even with maxing the gain on my Mark III and raising them as high as they'd go, they still didn't have the sustain I wanted. Their output is lower than most pickups on the market.

With the JVM on OD1 orange I had to really concentrate to get some speed up and that is some gain working on that channel, how the fuck Yngwie does what he does with those pups is beyond my skills   Sustain on the upper frets was not bad, not hot humbucker territory though.

Big clarity though and waiting for my YJM308 to get here.

daisy chaining?? i've seen yngwie's rig close up and its one OD pedal. Even back in the 80's, i don't know where that rumor came about. A DOD 250 actually has lots of gain as a stock pedal, more so with the old yellow ones. you got to remmeber most of Yngwie's tone is Power amp break up due to fact that he pushes them to the limit and the dod is just a pushing the front end signal. By disconnecting the guitar tone knobs you will achieve a little more output for hs-3's/yjms's..but they become a littler brighter. good luck!

I wonder if Morse is aware of the shit Yngwie has said about him in interviews.

Yup thats my experience too Ant! The poweramp break up is pretty much what adds the guts and sustain to Yngwie's tone, and the DOD 250 is just pushing it over the edge. I used to use the HS-3's in my guitar and loved the amount of dynamics that pickup allows you to play with. Very touch sensitive and really brings out the personality in your playing!

I started running my JCM800 at Yngwie volumes when im playing with the band, and i find that i can drop the amp's gain WAY low and still be getting all the sustain and low end chunk i could ever want   With the MV at around 12-1 o clock, it just transforms into this massive sustaining tone!

Haven't heard him bashing Morse. You got me interested in this, any links?

I guess I'm in the minority...I never liked Malmsteen's tone. To me he sounds kinda ice-picky.

I'll try and find it online an edit this post if I do, but he basically said in a Guitar World (I think) interview when asked about the then upcoming Deep Purple album with Morse that he couldn't wait "not to hear it", then went on to say that while Steve was a good technical player, he had a "sorry as shit, wimpy" vibrato (or words close to that).

Of course, he talked shit about Joe Satriani too (calling him nothing special and just a "pentatonic kind of player"
icon_rolleyes.gif
) and Satriani still had him on the G3 tour.

I do not remember where I heard that rumor about daisy chaining several boosts, I never did understand it but the people talking about were people I usually listen to

I agree about the pups being very dynamic, they clean up beautiful with the guitar volume and harmonics still jump out even at the lower output levels. I have to wait for my HP to get here, the blistering volumes are starting to be noticed in a bad way aroound the hood.

One think I have come to realize, there is not much a plexi type amp cannot do, just a very cool amp.

Yes, I clearly remember some very tactful followup replies by Steve Morse in the 'letters to the editor" section of the magazine where Malsteen had previously talked him down.

This was a few years back, I doubt if any of it is online.
