Been using a lot of 412 cabs at rehearsal and have been loving it! Some times I bring my Stone Age or Bogner 212, but there is something about a 412, that just sounds more full, alive and bigger, punchier and more fun to play than my 212 cabs. My cab collections is Bogner 212, Stone Age 212, THD 212 and Splawn 412. I am tempted to do another 412 in the near future! My Splawn 412 is going to be the ultimate roc and hard rock cab with a blend of Celestion Creambacks and Lynchbacks. You would think a 412 with light magnet speakers may lack some girth and punch, but somehow Celestion nailed it. Sounds much better than any Marshall 412 I have played. I may get a Bogner 412 next if I can get a good price.....or maybe a Splawn slant this time, since they are so well priced. :)

Funny you mention this. I just started jamming with an old buddy and he has two Marshall 4x12's and it flat out crushes. I've been using a great 2x12 and it sounds great but.......

Yeah man....wait till you plug into TWO 4x12's......you will NEVER go back.
Just sounds SO MASSIVE!
I use mine split apart about 10 feet and play between the 2 cabs.....literally a wall of tone!

Aint this the truth. I can't even get myself to plug into my 2x12 cabs lately, they just don't sound that great comparatively speaking . Currently rocking a splawn slant 4x12 with greenbacks right next to a no name 4x12 with EVH greenbacks! When I get bored I'll stack em just for shits and giggles.

+100.
Two 4x12's, on the floor, side by side = SEX.

Ya, nothing sounds as good as 4x12's. I tried to down size. AFter years of using 4 4x12's I tried to go to 2 2x12's. No way! I do have 1 2x12 for when 4x12's are just too much, but I'm never happy with less than at least 1 4x12.

Oh geez.. and I'm thinking of picking up a 1 x 12 to run with my 1x12 combo jcm800 to fill out the sound. I also have a 4 x 12 but not very practical for lugging around is it.....

I prefer the sound of a pair of 4x12's side by side at most dB's .... I do not use my 2x12 much.

I tried to like 2x12 but just can't. Not when I A/B them with a 4x12. Yeah 4x12's rock there's no denying.

There is nothing like the sound of a good 4X12 cab!!!

The Splawn 412 cabs re the best I have found in terms of quality, tone and price! I may get another Splawn, slant this time. Plus the Cramback/Lynchback combination is as good as it gets!

But, I can't get myself to get rid of my Bogner 212 with V30s nor my Stone Age 212C with G12K-100s. They rock as well, and easier to move. THD 212 rocks as well. Lets face it, some gigs, you really only need a combo or small 212 like the THD and a head.....

I had a Bogner OS 2x12. It was only slightly lighter than a 4x12, with the same footprint. Once miced there's probably no difference but standing in front there is a huge difference. I like the slant cab more FWIW, easier to hear. I'd rather cart the 4x12.

412 is much harder to move since we are on the third floor condo and I carry it up and down myself. My Bogner 212 I can carry with one hand.
I prefer straight 412. I can hear myself just as well with a stratight cab than slant and slants can have a weird tone. The slant only helps if you are standing right in front of the cab, once you get out about 5 feet, there is no difference If I am going to be playing right in front of a cab, I use a 212 wit hsemi open back. a combo on top of a 112 closed cab or big semi open back 212 can also sound massive.

i thought about getting a 2x12 to make it easier to carry my gear around to different houses to play with different people...then an old Marshall 4x12 comes up and i snag it. it has wheels, no more carrying the cab for me. i can roll it now. it was fate, i swear. so yep...ill just stick with my 4x12s!

90% of the time I am running 2 straight 4x12s side by side. If I'm just jamming in my room at any volume (or time) recording or jamming with a drummer, band or gig I prefer the 2 4x12s. I did borrow my friends Splawn 2x12 not that long ago and admit that I was pretty impressed with how big it sounded.

all 4x12s are not equal
i was in the right place at the right time when i was in the market for a new 4x12 back in 01

i had played a few cabs with my egnater tol 100 like vht, marshall, and mesa, but nothing sounded as good as the first time i played the tol 100 through a bogner 4x12

around that time sniderman and i put the amp shootout together.
reinhold brought down the early uberschall head and the prototype uberkab and i knew it was the one. there was a standard bogner v30 4x12 there that day for comparison but the uberkab with the v30/75s really complimented the eggie voice.

a decade later the cab has seen some speaker swaps-now its v30/greenback/gh30/scumback m75 and the peacemaker driving it, but it still sounds killer.

Essentially you are talking an oversized 4x12 then. I can't see how any other over sized cabs can't sound as good as those Bogners.

Just came from rehearsal. Two 4x12's, TS boost, Triple Rec head, Stratocaster with Suhr Aldrich.
MASSIVE tone.
