As some of you know, besides my band BML, i'm also a part of a world-wide project called Contrarian. Kinda a tech/death/prog metal project featuring George Kollias (from Nile) on drums.

I'm going in the end of January to record my parts for the new album and the other guitar player in the band has apparently been schmoozing Fender for some kind of endorsement for a few weeks now.

Well, Fender decided they didn't really need any help in the Fender line, but they sent us these two guitars, which magically appeared yesterday at my doorstep. Mine is the black USA made one and Jim took the "green?" Mexican one because he prefers a floating trem.

I took mine apart immediately (because that is what i do) to look for a date knowing these were not the later model years (no hex-wheel truss rod access). Mine is a 2009, USA made limited run something or other. I figured you guys would know more. The guitar plays amazing right out of the box. It's never really played before so it is brand new. Came with a nice gig bag.

I have been lusting after a Charvel for years, but since i make my own guitars, i just never could do it. I'll be putting my guitars aside for a bit a use this guy for a while.

Congrats! That's awesome. They are great guitars. I had one USA pro mod that was very close to the custom I have now...love the USA Charvels!

Thanks. Honestly, The Mexican one sounded and felt just as good to me (and i kinda dig the color). I just don't like floating floyd's, so he gave me the MIA one. Great guitars all around.

Awesome! That's an '09 Pro Mod from the first batch.

Thanks for the info. :)

Again, i have always loved the Charvels. The closest i ever had before was an old Charvette back in the 80's, then they kinda fell off my radar as i started building.

I am still confused about the different lines. Can someone outline the differences between Pro Mod/San Dimas/SoCal?

I believe Charvel San Dimas is the general description of all models, but the Pro Mod is what you have and the SoCal would have 2 Hum and a pickguard, with DiMarzios instead of SD JB/59.

It's all starting to make sense. Thank you

No, the "Pro Mod" refers to the entire line is a PROduction line MODel, not hand built custom shop.

The San Dimas has no pickguard. The So Cal has a pickguard.

Oops.

Congrats on the endorsement, I have that exact USA black guitar except I swapped out the black hardware for chrome and the Duncan pickups for Dimarzio 36th Anniv, love it!

Cool that they have NOS 09 USA ProMods lying around!

'08 were the first batches, '09 the 3rd or 4th. But the black ones were always made every year.

That's awesome man! Congrats! Killer guitars, and very cool you got one of the US models.
