Guys...as you know, I have been thinking of a second amp. I have been back and forth thinking Mark IV, Recto, another Marshall type....  :D , but I always throw the brakes on when thinking of the Mark IV. I like the tones. Clean sounds awesome, and the lead sounds good, but it just stops sustaining whenever I hear it. It seems almost too tight?

Anyhow, the IIC+ clips I hear has that sustain. Man...the thing sounds killer! But pricey!

Paging Danyeo...he played one of those for a long time.

IF you have the money to burn and have to get the IIC+ then just do it as you will always wonder.

If you do not have the money to compete with all of the mctallica and DT fanbois get the IV, that amp will sustain it's ass off.

Simul? Price?

Just curious.

:) :)

Hey Rian. I loved my Mark IV and really liked the IIC+ too. Keep in mind my IIC+ was a IIC modded by Mike B. The IIC+ sounded awesome with leads but really lacked teeth on rhythm. I loved the Mark IV. A little more compressed than the IIC+ but not by much. For me, it sustained for days. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Here are some clips of both amps:

Mark IV

Mark IIC+

I'd love to play a IIC+ some day but for now, my Mark IV fits the bill. Aggressive and a lead tone to die for.

Chad....that I don't know clip is damn jammin!!

So is that Devin Townsend song! awesome!!!

They are all good. Got the Trifecta packed away (IIC+, III Red, IVa).

Quite frankly, I would rather my Mark III Red Stripe over the IIC+. It is a little easier to dial up and a little more open. If you wanted to save some serious money but was after IIC+ tone, jump on ebay and find a Mark III black or red stripe, Simulcass with GEQ. It will jump over anything in its path.

The Mark IV sustains but I think it may depend on what you're used to. By that I mean, if you're used to boosting a Marshall with a tubescreamer for leads you may find a Mark dies off early, but if you take the time to rock one for awhile and get used to the feel of it you'll find they sustain just fine.

Also, don't be afraid of the gain knob. Marks aren't like a lot of other high gain amps where you can't turn the gain much past noon without it turning into a wall of mush. Pump both gain knobs up to 7, 8 or even 9 if you want.

You could get a MarkIII for about $800 to $900, Great sounding amps, MarkIII is a poor mans MarkIV MarkIIC+

Used Mark IVs are going for the same price as Mark IIIs lately. Kind of a kick in the balls if your a seller but great if you're looking to buy in.

+1 on the Mark III. The IV doesnt have great low end. Still a great amp. The three has lots more, and from what I am told the III Coli is just awesome.

Good info...thanks.

I agree with the majority. While the III isn't exactly like a IIC+ you can tweek them close. The III's i played all had more gain than the IIC+'s i had but the IIC+ has a great singing tone and warmth.

While the Mark V looks somewhat familiar i find it has little in common with older Mark series amps. It's tweaked different, and i agree with what my friend Ivan says about them not sounding great until tuned up and that goes against what Mark series amps are known for.

I've had a IIB, III (red) and a V and the V has by far the best low volume tone out of any of them.

Definitely agree. I've owned a IIC+ and my buddy (Solid Snake) owns a III.

I really love my V

Always wanted to get another IIC+, sold one a long time ago, but I just don't know enough to know which "one" to get.

The Classic mark IIC+ vs III vs IV, and now vs V debate.

I only own and have played my mark IVA, but this is how I see the 3 stacking up from what I have read. Looking forward to checking out Gibson5413's clips later.

IIC+, if you have the coin go with this amp.
III, will get you in the IIC+ ballpark, the most agressive in general, great deal
IV, get it over the III if you need more versatility than the III and don't have the money for the IIC+
V, If you want maximum versatility and are not looking to nail the IIC+ lead sound, this is the way to go.

Personally, I would go with the III or the IV...
