Mark III Red or Blue

I've had a red and blue and for what ever reason I also liked the red better. The EV is ok, but my suggestion would be to use a 4x12 with it.

It's the most punishing 1x12 combo there is though if that's the way you want to use it   The volume could deafen you.

The line I had on a Red Stripe didn't pan out. The seller dropped off the face of the earth. Sucks too. He was in my area and the amp looked fairly mint.

IMO as long as they are simul class you can't go wrong with either.

Had that happen to me many times. It's been worse since the economy went south. Not only do I see many tire kickers, but also many sellers who won't respond....

The seller finally got back to me. He's coming to drop the amp off with me tomorrow. :)

Than an early happy new amp day to you.

I had a blue, and a Mark IIC+, and I liked the blue just as much. I played a Green Stripe recently, and it was very reminiscent of the Blue. The cleans were maybe better than I remembered on the Blue, but OD-wise pretty much the same (of course this was with 6 or so years in between, not even close to a direct A/B).

FWIW, my blue stripe had a NIGHT AND DAY improvement with upgraded NOS power tubes. Biggest improvement I've ever encountered with a power tube change.

I read that the Blue is closest to a 2C+

I had a green and it was awesome. I don't think you could go wrong with either!

Great amps!

Personally i wouldn't get a combo if possible. But hey, that's just me.

I have owned 5 MKIIC+ and still own a MKIIC+ simulclass and I have owned 3 different MKIII and the Blue stripe I owned sounded nothing like an MKIIC+ , the closest MKIII in sound that I have owned was a MKIII no stripe and it sounded identical to my MKIIC+ but the playing feel is totally different

Mark series are definitely the good one is the one you play through that sounds good. I've played multiple versions of the same stripe where some are ass and some incredible. Probably tubes. My studio Pre is very sensitive to the tube choices on whether it's a tight riffing machine or too mushy and compressed.

Get this. So the guy was all set to drop the amp off today when his wife calls me yelling about how her husband isn't using the car. She starts bad-mouthing this guy to me for some reason. "He's a pain in the ass! He's not putting wear and tear on the car to bring you the amp! He's so selfish! I hate him! What an asshole!! Why don't you come and pick the thing up!" I'm like... lady... I don't care what you think about your husband. I had a deal... with HIM... to buy this amp. I'm paying $800 + $40 in gas. I don't own a car. This is San Francisco. Who the hell needs a car here. Again, she starts trash talking her husband to me. So I guess the deal's off.

It's all well and good, though. After a tube change to KT77s, my Einstein is sounding pretty awesome. I just wanted to try out a Red Stripe Mark III.

I think this worked out for the best. Imagine the crazy shit that would have gone down if the guy HAD come to deliver the amp - especially if he brought his wife with him......

Oh, yeah... work takes me all over. I've been in SF since January and gonna be here for a while, maybe a few years at least. I moved out here for a new full-time job. But decided to go freelance back in May. And It's pretty awesome. I was down in Austin for two months on a job. Then came back home to SF and I've been working under contract at another agency for a few months. I went from Atlanta to NYC to Detroit to SF. SF is the best so far.
