I've been trying to get John Petrucci's tone on the song "Constant Motion" off of Dream Theater's new album "Systematic Chaos" and thought I got kind of close, so I decided to make a quick clip. I literally learned this riff an hour before I did the clip and it was barley under my fingers (yeah, I know I'm playing it a little bit too slow). I play a couple of other riffs from "Constant Motion", but I am pretty much just faking them. I only really learned the first part of the first riff. This was recorded about 4 feet from the cab at fairly low volume.

I just used my digital camera's mic and made a video, then extracted the audio and turned it into an mp3. Obviously the sound quality isn't the greatest, but I don't think it sounds too bad.

Let me know what you think. Thanks:

Here's the song for anyone not familiar with the tone (the song sucks imho. They've done much better):

That's the best Axe-FX higher gain clip I've heard, yet.

Heh, ShrediKnight - very good as always. Is that the Axe-FX? :D

Yeah, it's the Axe FX's Mark IV model.

I was hoping to maybe fool a couple of people with my carefully worded thread title (I don't actually say it's a Mark IV), but Code001 gave me away right off the bat.

Shredi, you sly dog. I like the clip it sounds really good considering the method of recording.

Good effort.

FWIW< I think that sounds pretty frickin good

When I heard it, I was wondering because you've said quite a few good things about it on the Petrucci forums.

HAve not read the thread yet..........................not a MK IV.

So he can impress everyone with the fact that he knows it isn't a Mark IV.

He remembers when I posted that clip of my old Vetta that I said was a Mark IV and fooled a few people on here and HC.

I think Digital Jams view is, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." :)

Here's a couple more clips I did tonight using the Axe FX's Slo amp sim. I dialed this patch in in all of about 2 minutes. Like the other clip, it's audio extracted from a video shot with a digital camera, recorded at low volume.

These are just some of my typical, improvised noodle-fests. Kind of the same thing in both (and in the same key), but I couldn't decide which one I liked better:

Cool stuff! That Axe-FX sounds like a cool unit. Have to try one some day.

Sorry but I think I gave you away on the HC post.

That ok. This really wasn't so much about trying to fool anyone as it was just trying to get an unbiased opinion without anyone autmoatically saying, "It sounds digital!".

I hadn't planned on posting it at all, but I PMed the clip to mctallica1 (because he's interested in the Axe FX) and he was really impressed with how close he thought it sounded and said that it could probably fool people.

No.......because everyone on the planet knew he was getting a axe-fx and the fact he went to HCAF stating......" I fooled "some experts over at rig-Talk with my Vetta WTF OMG!!!!!!"

Pretty simple.

Yeah, in no way bashing the axe-fx because it seems like a very cool rig and the owners seems to be willing to do whatever it takes to support the buyers

Just knew what was coming :)
