I've had both and i preferred the Mark IV, and i now have a mark V. I really liked the roadster and its a great amp but it was a lot looser and much darker sounding than the mark. To me the Roadster is a great amp for rhythm playing.

A Recto voicing will make a de-tuned or 7 string guitar very loose and flubby.

Rectos are only loose and flubby if you dial them in to be loose and flubby.

Whatever I'm doing, mine sounds pretty flubby. I partially think its my cab. Also Kyle from Rhodes said my pickups (blackouts) sounded loose when I played through a colossus.

I like having the option to play loose but I would also like to be able to tighten it up super tight. Like engl tight. I like dark sounding amps with a lot of depth, I.e. the ability to dial in a large bass response. I mostly play more like a rhythm player, with occasional searing single note lines and some leads, but not a ton.

The Recto voicing is designed to be loose with tons of sag.

Ok so what about this sound?

I saw in a bid it looked like he was playing a recto

Edit: actually it looks like he's maybe bi-amping a bassman and a recto. Or maybe he just uses the bassman for cleans. Not that he plays many.

the clip sounded great. For this an Orange Rockerverb 50 is a nobrainer.

I'v had a RV50, Roadster and a Mk V all at the same time.. I believe that is what you are looking for.. a RV50. It has a low mid growl and and highs doesnt get all slimy like in the recto series.

Cleans on the RV50 are better aswell. The clean channel sounds AMAZING aswell dimed with a boost in front. Pure 6V6 output valve growl.

Of the three amps, I still have the Mark V. Though I might get an RV50 for recording at some point.. it would mix GREAT with the MkV or my Kali modded JMP2203.. for more depth and anger.

I play doom metal BTW... like Candlemass & Solitude Aeternus.

Interesting. I looked at some more vids and he's def playing a dual recto. Played a Thunderverb a while back and liked it but hadn't thought about it lately. I'll have to give it another shot. oh and those two bands you mentioned are great.

The thunderverb does not sound very good tho IMO ;)

RV is definitely more open sounding than the roadster

I have both the Roadster and Mark IV, run them in stereo, they sound great together since they are both so different.

Yeah.. they are perfect together.

Hm. That's an interesting suggestion. I am the only guitar player so it would be nice to do a stereo with a fuller spectrum

Yeh the tone shaping control on the dirtier channel leaves something to be desired.

A guy in my the shop collective I work at has a mark iv. Gonna try it out tomorrow.
