Marsha Maintenance Question

For about the last week my Marsha has sounded a bit more harsh/buzzy and perhaps a bit thinner. It still sounds good but not quite as good as it did. It doesn't seem to be the "tube gremlin" syndrome since its been fairly consistant in 3 different rooms. I run my tone knobs fairly flat (start at noon and tweak for the room...usually end up with everything between 10 & 2), the gain at about 2 o'clock on the HBE setting, loop out, and no other toggles (Sat and Modern) engaged. Master at about 10 o'clock.

Anything I should be looking for before I take on a retube?

I find my wall voltage can change the sound a bit especially when it goes up to 121 or 122 volts.. ( I am in an old house and it fluctuates) Sometimes I get bang on 117v and it seems to sound perfect. And maybe I imagine it since I can see the voltmeter.

Could be what mike said or maybe a bad preamp tube.

Cool, thanks! I believe Mike may have nailed it with the voltage thing...I rehearsed in a new place last night and it sounded like it should/did before.

Dave, are there any tubes that you recommend when the time comes? It currently has A GT ECC83 in v1, Russian 12AX7s in 2&3, and Chinese 12AX7s in 4&5. Power tubes are JJ EL34.

My studio has electric "issues" so mine does too. I also used the Furman Reg. and that increased the top end and clarity throughout the spectrum. The furman was too much of a change.

Like JJel34's in the amp. Preamp tubes i mostly like chinese. Some russian though tungsol and lps or wb. other then that everything sucks as far as preamp tubes go. Chinese ruby el34bht sound good also but different.
