Hey guys,

I have a Marsha coming in the next month or so and on another (german) music board I found a really sweet offer on a Knucklehead. I talked to the guy who is selling it and it seems like an amazing amp. I told him I'm looking into a possible "support" amp for the marsha (which I of course havent played yet) because I think it will be amazing up to metallica like tones, but anything beyond that (think Alter Bridge/mark tremonti) will maybe not be covered. He told me that the Rivera will end up as my only amp and I actually dont need my marshall-style amp, but I already ordered and Im still convinced that the Marsha will be a-m-a-z-i-n-g!

So maybe someone can tell me if the idea of having the marsha as a main amp for all the classic rock/hard rock stuff and having the Knucklehead as a support for the bottom end (and maybe also for the lead tone?!?!) is smart? Or are they too smiliar or whatever...?

best regards,
Timo

Haven't played a Knuckehead but I've played a Bonehead. It was nothing like a Marsha and I did not like the Bonehead tone. If you like Marshall tones you will love the Marsha, can't say about the other. Why is the guy selling if it sounds so good?

But I think I could really like both. He seems to be pretty good with dialing in tones and told me that I can get a recto/Uberschall thing and that this amp is very versatile. So I think it cann really add some bottom. Maybe you dont like that kind of music/tone in general? For me its more about what you think of his combo?!

And he said he needs the money. he is crazy active on the Rivera User thread and is changing betweens amps all the time. Probably GAS, who could blame him ;)

How's Melbourne?? Lived close to Melbourne for about a year :) Would love to spend one or two semesters at the uni over there!

Dude, wait for the Marsha then decide. I think you'll get all the tones you seek out of it.

Regarding the Rivera thats an amp I wouldn't even think of buying. I'd save up and go for a Diezel for those other tones you seek

As Nico mentioned, something like a Herbert would sound great. Melbourne is a fantastic place, mid winter ATM so it's pretty cold, I love living here.

Yeah probably its smart to wait until the marsha arrives. but do you really think it gets met tremonti-like rhythm chunks? no really right?!

And why are you guys not really keen on riveras?

Its not that Rivera doesn't make fine amps. But once you try a Diezel its game over. It was for me! The Herbert is a metal monster!

I don't know what Tremonti uses maybe a Bogner Uber? Keep in mind that gear alone won't replicate the exact tones he has.

Still the Diezel tops it and beats easily, no doubt. And you are in Europe, you should try one out! You'll get a far better deal on it than a Bogner coming from the States too!

Tremonti uses a Mesa Triple rec and a Uber for the bottom end. I kinda thoguht about doing the same with the Rivera, giving my Marsha that tight bottom end, cause afaik thats something where the marsha cannot quite hold up with those metal monster amps right? Its "just" up to metallica sounds, nothing beyond that?!
I know I cant duplicate his sound but I just want to be in the same ballpark and Im really impressed with his rhythm tone!

And a Diezel is crazy expensive isnt it? I know the Marsha is too, but I cant afford those expensive amps all the time. And The Rivera is quite "cheap" and I can sell it for the same price if I dont like it!

The reviera is not that tight. The Marsha is a tighter amp for sure.

Maybe its not as tight but I reckon it could add some bottom end and just another, darker colour to my rhyhm sound. Im not doubting that the marsha will be my main amp for a long time to come :)
