In my research, I've come across so much contradicting info. I'm sure I'll get more here ( :D ), but maybe someone can shed some light.

1) Is the biggest difference in the preamp section ?
2) Some say same transformers/power sections. Others say JMPs had lower voltage transformers.
3) Same brands of components inside (caps, resistors, etc) ?
4) Any price difference on the used market between JMP/JCM 2203s in good condition ?
5) Whats the deal with the Canadian versions ? I know the Canuk version has different transformers without a 16 ohm tap, but are the US/Canadian transformers the same otherwise ?

thanks

All I know is that I have a Canadian version 2203 with vertical inputs that just blows me away when I play it. Straight in or with a boost it just rocks. I sold the SLOvenger I had because it couldn’t stand up to this head in versatility or tone. I’m sooooo blown away with this amp!
I recently got a Soldano Hot Mod and that little thing is amazing as well. Can’t believe it gets a bad rap.

Love my JCM 800 !! Oh…it had a tiny mod from a dude named Bob Wojick (sp?) when I bought and Mr. Fortin tweaked it a bit as well. ;)

They are very similar. Depending on the year there are very small differences in some parts values depending on the years. I've played mine and a buddy's JCM/JMP and you can dial them in to sound almost exactly the same. They both stomp.

Preamp component values are identical on the 2203's/2204's whether it's a JCM or JMP. They might have used different brands of components over the years. When Marshall went to the PCB mounted pots and jacks on the JCM800 2203 (think this was 1984) they changed the power supply filtering on the 100 watters only, the 50 watt 2204's stayed the same.
