Alright, there seems to be limitless mods out there for a daunting number of Marshall amps and a lot of the guys here have tried or own(ed) a lot of them. I've done some searching on the internet, on Rig Talk, and watched clips on YouTube, but it's hard to really get a feel for a lot of stuff considering what guys play and play with, etc (I play a Les Paul and mostly play rock music, so a clip of a guy playing an Ibanez doing thrash metal really doesn't help me LOL).
What I'm looking for is a 2-channel amp that does the cleaned up Marshall thing (JTM45 to JMP territory) with a little break up on the first channel, all the way to lighter 70's Marshall tones well and also does the high gain modded Marshall thing (JCM800 to Modded Marshall territory) well on the second channel. I'm not a metal player and I don't need to get into the crazy high gain territory that a lot of people post clips of. I'd say the tones I'm looking to be able to recreate/emulate for example purposes are Jet, AC/DC, Zeppelin on the first channel and then GNR, Buckcherry (hate the band overall but love the tone on Lit Up), and the like on the second channel. I wouldn't say I'm an 80's metal cockrock guy either, but some of those Marshall tones are just awesome and being able to hit some modded Marshall gain territory on channel-2 would be nice. My main guitar is a Gibson Les Paul Standard with MCP Detroiters, which I absolutely love and feel I should be able to get some great tones with if I had the right amp for the job. I also use a Fender Strat for the Strat type stuff, but that doesn't get as much use as the LP.
I currently play through an Egnater M4 / Randall RT2/50 and use the SL and SLX modules most frequently. While these do produce some great tones, I've always felt they lack the punch and overall feel of a standard all tube head (if that makes sense). SL gets the closest in terms of warmth, but doesn't do the modded Marshall thing. They get close to what I'm looking for, but they just aren't quite there.
So, do any of you have suggestions on what I should be looking for/at? Ceriatone? Fortin modded Vintage Modern? Any clips I may have missed that I should check out?
I know this is pretty open ended and leaves a lot to opinion, but they guys around here usually are pretty much in agreement about an amp and what it does, so hopefully you guys can lead me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!!!
