Anyone have any "hands on" experience thoughts on this...?

I have never heard or even seen a Marshall BHW 4x12 in person

I briefly owned an EVH 4x12 but it was like back in 2009 and I cant remember what it sounds like at all... Plus the amps i had were totally different back then too.

Thinking of getting another 4x12 to go with my new plexi Marshall Dave modded and I wanted something different from my Friedman 4x12 to have a little variety...

I have read tons of threads and watched clips, yadda, yadda, but now wanted to hear first hand thoughts on the difference between these two cabs.

Thanks!

I love the evh 4x12, I have a friedman and an EVH and the EVH holds its own big time. used EVH's are going for under 400 dollars and a new friedman is 1200, one of the best bangs for your buck cab wise.

I've never seen a used one under $400, u must have connections.

Cheapest I've seen an EVH cab for is $500 plus shipping on eBay. I paid $599 plus tax for my near new one at the local GC.

+1. I have 1 EVH and one modded EVH with 2 v30s for my BE100. No experience with the Marshall cab, but both of my EVH's sound killer. If you can get a used one for a good price grab it. If you don't like it you can always replace the speakers and sell/trade them off for something else, the cab itself is solid. From what I remember from your vid, your amp sounds like a BE, HBE, so I don't think you will be disappointed. Turn up the amp, but open the volume on your guitar just to distortion and that cab will "cry".

If you can get the Marshall for near the same price I'd go for that. Those are on par with the vintage Marshall cabs of the past...very resonant and lively. Had an EVH cab, it was nice for sure. But I played an AHW and was very impressed..more so than the EVH. IMO.

Very similar cabs, different cloth and completely different sperakers.
The Marshall is more of a metal cabinet, and the G12-H 30w with 55Hz cone have a very pronounced bass and upper mid, it' a lot louder and weights a lot more than the EVH because of the speakers. It does amazing in a hard rock and modern rock, and excels at metal.
The EVH with the G12M 20w with it's 75Hz speakers is more balanced and a works a bit better for that old school 60's and 70's sound, but it's stellar for metal too.
Either cabinet would be a great choice.

I had both cabinets...
I play classic metal and hard rock...
I still have the marshall...
SBlue is 100% correct...

Man those g12H30 55's sound so freaking awesome!!!!

Thanks guys,

I was thinking about the Marshall as nice complement to my Friedman 4x12 but man it is pricey even with my discounts...

That's why I was thinking the EVH would be a sweet alternative as they are available used for killer prices.

I am so broke...
Don't do that to me now...................

I haven't owned an EVH cab. I've had Splawn straight 4X12, 2 Avatar 2X12s, Marshall 1960BX 4X12, and two slant Soldano 4x12s. I've been happy with all of them. I really like the EVH (AKA G12 Heritage) Greenbacks though. I still own 4 made in UK 6402 cone greenbacks and love them. I love the M65 Creambacks too. I'm a greenback loving freak though. My favorite greenback types of them all by far are the Scumback BM75s and the M75-PVCs both in 65 watts. I absolutely LOVE those freaking things!

I tried mixing and matching Greenbacks with various Eminence, Celestion, and WGS speakers (both various medium and heavy magnet models) and finally just settled on the Scumbacks not mixed as satisfying me the most. I have the BM75s in one 4x12 and the M75-PVCs in another 4x12. I found where I want to be. Done. It was a long and expensive endeavor though. It sucks that we have to go through that finding where we want to be and then when we find it just HOPING that we stay satisfied with that piece of the puzzle staying right where it's at.

Totally accurate. Can be a long and expensive process since most of these aren't ever built right into a cab you want to buy.

To me the EVH cab was dark sounding with my Stealth head but not in a bad way. In the past, I had a Marshall AHW 4x12. It rocked! Tight, CRISP. You could play any style and it never farted out. I now have a Friedman with the v30's and greenback mix. It rocks too.

      The Heritage G12H 55's still sound killer by themselves especially for metal!!!! I just decided to give the Heritage H75s a try per glip22's recommendations and it added a little bit more mids.

I have the 1960BHW & have had it for a few years. My Soldano Avenger sounds amazing through it....Boosted with an OD-9 is unreal.
