Marshall Blues Breaker pedal, BYOC version

I used to have the Shredmaster pedals when they came out. I put together a BYOC one a while ago. When I tried the BYOC I thought it sounded different than what I remember the original Shredmaster - the BYOC didn't sound as good as I remembered the originals sounding like. Unfortunately I don't have the original Shredmaster to compare.

i have a bb-2. it sounds sort of like the combo amp.. but more compressed. there's a fair amount of gain available. i wasn't as impressed by this pedal as i hoped i would be. while the basic tone stack is there.. it lacks the transparency i was hoping to hear. the tone control doesn't have a real wide sweep range imo. i've been using it as a lead boost when i want a darker tone than the sd-1 and it does that quite well. it could be that i have to try it with a couple of different amps to find a tone stack it works well with. ymmv.
as a side note i've been running into a tweed tone stack and i've also put it in front of my carvin x 60. what it's lacking is the nice high end shimmer marshall's have. maybe changing the resistor value in the tone wiper to let more treble through would be an option.

I have heard the BB-2 version is a good deal different from the BB-1 version (which is what BYOC is based on). So it might be worth checking out a BB-1 or clone, since it doesn't sound like your thrilled with your BB-2.

i wasn't thrilled by it.. so i decided to try something different. i've got an old g 10 mk II that died on me. so i cleaned up a bunch of cold solder joints and replaced the stock 6 inch speaker with an 8 inch cts and ran the bb-2 into that. oh yes.. it has that marshall roar! well.. at least as much as i can get out of 10 watts and an 8 inch speaker.
both the tweed and x 60 tone stacks have a tendency to compress and are darker.. which doesn't work well with this pedal.. imho. it might work well with a marshall tone stack or some other amp that's tight and bright.. like punching the front end of one of their old mg or avt series amps.. since their od sounds like sterile angry bees. you can get some control over that by keeping the amp gain down.. and using the pedal gain. then the bb-2 sounds pretty good. haven't tried it with a tubed marshall yet.
i may try it in front of my yamaha g 100 210 later today and see how it works with that.
