I traded a TSL 100 for this DSL and I agree.

Who's the best modder for a DSL? Why the Koko boost?

dude i am always saying this and sound like a broken record - but i sent my TSL to FJA mods and had him do pretty much everything he does to an amp - which is an OT, choke, and i got the "metal mod", and i love my amp now man.
you should definitely keep that amp and send it to fja IMO. get the full treatment, but go with the lower gain metal mod. i have so much gain i never even use it. my crunch channel gain is on 2 right now and my lead channel's on 4 lol. (it's not that much of an issue though because you can control it with the channel gain knobs)
the thing that puts this amp over the top IMO is low gain pre amp tubes and jj kt77 power tubes.
definitely a keeper.

Because its a lot cheaper than a mod and sounds like one. It really tightens up an amp and adds saturation that does not change the characteristics of the DSL at all. Really natural but makes it alot tighter.

no offense to the guys that use boost's but to me a boost on a JCM2000 is just uncalled for lol.
the amp has so much gain on tap to begin with, and 2 overdrive channels, one being lower gain than the other, why even use one? why not use the higher gain OD as a "boost" you know?
get that fucker modded and you wont need a boost pedal to tighten shit up because it'll be tighter than a nun's ass lol

not boosting it for gain, just tightening it up. ;)

Beat me to it

well, all i'll say is that you can use a hundred dollar pedal to "tighten it up" if you want, or you can have the iron upgraded and hear the amp as it should have been form the factory in the first place lol.
i'm not "all about mods" but i think the JCM2000 is one of those amps that really benefits and improves on some modifications. more so than others.

I'd venture to say that most recorded guitar tones I enjoy have been boosted. Actually they have probably been modded then boosted

i guess i'm just in the camp that thinks the more tone you get from your amp rather than a hundred dollar pedal the better lol.
amps in the 70's needed boosted because they didn't have that much gain to begin with - you take an amp like we have today - any given high gain amp that runs 1500+- and what is the point? you know? lol
make your AMP work don't buy some pedal and stick it in front.

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks Willis

Yeah installing some $250+ iron is not going to make the amp really much tigher. It will sound different I will agree to that. Boost the green channel is the cheaper option if you don't want to have the amp modded or can't do it yourself.

Having owned a couple DSL's and a TSL, modding them I can tell you a couple things you can do to really make the amp to another level if you would like. Personally would sell it if you are not happy with the basic tone.
