well this isn't a thread about the 2000's so we probably shouldn't even go there, but i'll be damned if i didn't think getting this amp modded could get you where you wanna be on the cheap lol.
i'd say if you're willing to invest over 1500 look elsewhere, and by "elsewhere" i mean 2000+, but if you just want a good old workhorse marshall that can do some metal on the side then get a used 2000 and get it modded.
all i know is my amp doesn't need a boost.

Spent like two hours listening to Jerry's mods and they sound really good, surprised no one mentioned Voodoo, his mods sound really good as well.

Voodoo mods are killer
FJA mods are killer
Fortin mods are killer

get the Fortin mods and do them yourself, that's what I did to my DSL50 and it sounds good! Just need a few more tweaks, but I will probably just leave it as is. I have mad JMP gas and either scoring a used one to hack or ideally build one from scratch.

well, all i'll say is that you can use a hundred dollar pedal to "tighten it up" if you want, or you can have the iron upgraded and hear the amp as it should have been form the factory in the first place lol.
i'm not "all about mods" but i think the JCM2000 is one of those amps that really benefits and improves on some modifications. more so than others.

$100 pedal? Naw I use a $30 sd-1 and it sounds killer!

Yeah I use the koko on the regular gain channel because the ultra gain sounds like turd, and yeah its not to add gain per say as much as just changing the tightness/feel of the amp.
