Im in need of a second amp I can leave where my band practices once a week instead of hauling my entire rig back and forth each week.
I'm looking for something on the cheaper side since I don't have a lot of extra cash right now.
I may run it in stereo with my Hagen at some point.
There is a DSL 50 for sale locally for 500 I'm thinking of jumping on. Are these decent amps?
I'm sure it needs to be re-tubed so trying it out may not tell me much.
I used to have a TSL100 a few years back and really didn't like it that much, is the DSL a better amp for metal?
What else would work good for what I'm looking for?

The DSL is way better than the TSL, sounds alot beefier, and more Marshally if you will. sounds like a decent deal. How do you know it needs a retube?

The guy says the tubes are a few years old.
Anyone have one of these?

Really good amp. Nice deal at $500. I'd jump on it. I had one years ago and it was a really good sounding amp. Easy to bias, and a mix of chinese and TS reissue pre amp tubes made it sound great. I like SED EL34's for it, but they are a bit pricey now. You can get some decent Ruby's or something for a decent deal.

I have one and love it, but it's modded. I haven't played a stock one in at least 5 or 6 years.

Been gigging mine almost 2 years straight now and it's still going. Did the Fortin mod on it and it kicks ass!!

Some of the earlier year ones, pre 04 I believe, have a biasing issue and you may have to get a new board to resolve the problem, don't quote me on that going from memory here... Only other issue they have, that is so easy to fix its silly, is a ground on the speaker jacks. This thread talks about it and its basically soldering in one wire across all the speaker jacks...

For 5 bones I would take the deal

Its a very nice amp. For that price, you should also check the Carvin Legacy (first one).

I've been wearing out Vinnie Moore's "To The Core" lately and think it has some great tones - turns out he used an Engl and a DSL. Of course it could be modded, but still...raised my interest in the amp.

500 I would ..I have a 100 watt and it sounds great boosted

Thanks for the replies..
Seems like a good deal
What about a JVM 205/210 vs. DSL?
Those seem to be going pretty cheap as well.
Thanks for the help... I'm clueless about marshalls as you can tell.

the JVM's will pretty much cop the dsl's voicing but they have more compression...I don't think you could go wrong either way...I personally would just buy the DSL for $500 thats a pretty good deal
