I'm starting a fun project just for something to do. I have a 1998 DSL 100 with the old epoxy power board that is said to become conductive over time, experience the pin 5 leak and have the wrong bias resistor types for the design of the board and the temps they are exposed too etc..

I bought the updated power board which I will replace and while I'm at it I will add a choke.. hammond 3H type. these things are actually fun to work on- even for a non like me. More to come

Original run JCM 2000 former owner, interested in clips after the choke is added. Happy soldering!

Thanks! I've read that the choke will help the amp hold together better at higher volumes

Right on. I miss mine for sentimental reasons, and want to get an original (w/ spring reverb) at some point again.

Id recommend getting that gear off the floor and onto a table or workbench.

I have a 2009 DSL which had the fixes by 2006.

I was banned from the kitchen table last night- apparently its just for eating- and I wanted to get started so... made do. I will need a sturdy surface to drill the chassis for mounting the choke so I'll move to the garage for that.

lol .... gotcha. Our dining room table doubles as my workbench and my GF piled it high with craft stuff lastnite.

Make sure the boards are clean of hair, fibers or muck before final assembly.

Go easy on those molex connectors too they break easy.

I had an older DSL that had the board go bad. Bias would run away on one power tube. I replaced the board with the newer version and all was well. Amp even sounded better.

Back in the spring I modded my 2000 DSL 100. I did buy the replacement board but did not install it. I kept it as a backup. Instead, I drilled out Pin 5 on the PTs and also lifted one leg of the PI caps, C6 and C7 and then flew leads from there to their respective grid blockers. This totally addressed the drifting bias.

I also installed that Hammond choke and did the Fortin mods that are detailed on this forum.

Sounds really great. Way more gain. Too much perhaps. Have fun and be safe.

Dave
