Hi,

I am looking to replace my Blackstar HT Stage 60 combo with one of the follwing amps:

Engl Sovereign E368 2x12
Marshall JVM 410C
Blackstar Series One 104 6L6 top

Never mind why I want to change - my question is: Which of these amps comes closest to the sound on these three songs:

https://soundcloud.com/noxtrain/

And which of the three amps is just greatest in your opinion?

The songs are from my band, where until recently I only sang. Now I'm going to play guitar as well, and I need to know which of the above amps will complement our current guitarist best. His rig (the one used on the recordings) consists of a Fender Twin Reverb and a Boss DS-2 for distortion.

You might ask why I don't just buy the same amp as him, but for reasons that doesn't really matter, I will not buy a Fender amp. Ever. :)

Looking forward to your replies.

have to be one of those three amps?

Orange might be a good compliment imo , the JVM otherwise would be my favourite of those 3

I like the Sin Shelf tune. It has potential to be worked into a really cool tune. Sounds great as is though! :) Good work.

No doubt about it I would go for the jvm. Can't go wrong with that voicing and you know it will cut with a band.

C1-ocaster: Thanks

JoePete77: OK. You think the built-in distortion can nail that sound? I'm afraid it might be too "overdrive" sounding and not enough "distortion" sounding - do I need to worry about that?

Docster: I've been thinking that myself. Wish I could have the individual channel settings and double master volumes from the JVM and the Blackstar 6L6 sound

I guess a short version of the question is: Which amp's distortion comes closest to the sound of the Boss DS-2? :)

Hopefully none.

Having owned maybe five Engls I would check out the Blackstar for what you want. Listen to Ola when he gets in the mix.

glip22: That sounds awesome! :D And it's the Crunch channel - not even one of the two overdrive channels

Thank you guys, I will try to get my hands on a Blackstar for some testing.

I know. Plus a clean channel. Makes me wonder how much ground this amp can cover. Lots of options. You might get lucky and find one used for cheaper. I see them new for 1650 or so. It does sound killer.

100 Watt head with built-in DPR power reduction
4 x ECC83, 1 x ECC82, 4 x EL34 valves
4 footswitchable channels
Clean channel with Warm (Plexi) and Bright (Class A) type modes
Crunch channel with Crunch and Super Crunch modes
Two overdrive channels with high and low output damping
Two ISF equipped tone control sections
Presence and Resonance controls
Master Volume
Series effects loop
MIDI switching

Found a used Blackstar 6L6 and it's on its way :) Thanks for your inputs
