i was new and messed up

Had a TSL for a while...didnt really like it that much. The clean channel is solid state I think? Blew a couple of transformers in the 5 years or so I had it lying around. Not great a low volumes. Definitely not a piece of gear that I miss or would like a again.

The DSL was a great piece of gear for the price though....

ive had both.

TSL
better cleans...but still mediocre.
nice crunch channel (with gain low and volume cranked)
Lead channel NEEDS help for modern metal (eg eq in fx loop)

5150II
awesome crunch channel for hard rock/modern metal
great fx loop

i bought 3 and kept 1 so this 1 is pretty cool, i have a herbert too and i love to mix the 2..the highs of the tsl blend great with herbie, but yeah the other 2 did not compare

Having looked at both while looking to upgrade from a Marshall AVT halfstack, I chose the 5150 II, not because I have an overly 'modern' tastes, and I don't play br00tz on my own time, did with my band at the time however, never pushed the gain past 5.5 or so, unboosted.

I'd rather have a clean channel that lacked slightly to my ears than have a lead channel that needs to be pushed/augmented to get a good solid, modern sound. YMMV Both really cool amps. I'd take a DSL however.
