New to this forum ... recently picked up this heavily modded JCM 800 but do not know who performed this mod. Anyone recognize the work? There was a 1" x 2.5" sticker on the back across the "100w Lead" area that is missing. Have no idea what information it told. No signatures anywhere, lots of goop and whiteout.

Damn!

Mike you should write a mod lexicon...

Thanks Mike, I'll follow up with that info and let you know.

Sounds really good, I just don't know exactly what the front knob is doing. It's a push-pull with +/- gain.

I had a mod like that on a 77 2203 yrs back. I never new who did the mod but it sounded killer, it looked like yours except the added 2nd master knob was moved up a little to be level with other knobs and the fx loop added on back had no level controls or knobs. It had an extra turret board mounted inside and only one extra preamp tube added. The low input was disconnected and the added knob had a push pull option. The 2nd added master added a ton of gain and saturation and allowed a cranked tone at even whisper volumes. Amp was a little noisy but one of my favorites. I wonder if it was same guy mike said did yours?

Found Mike Morin on Facebook and emailed him the pics:

Thanks FortinAmps, you were right on!

Wow you answered my question too! I bought two white marshall cabs from same guy like 4 months ago and while there I took pics of same amp. I started thinking about it and wondered who modded it as I didnt recognize the mods. I hope you talked him down from his asking price.

Extra valve is probably for the FX loop. The CF tonestack was probably raped and made into a plate-fed arrangement so the extra half of the preamp tube could be used as an extra gainstage. Nothing revolutionary here. There were more guys doing this mod in the 80's than you could shake a stick at. A few years ago, I reverted back to stock a 2204 that had similar mods done to it by Jerry Blaha. Sounded just godawful.

The Mike Morin mods sounded extremely wicked back in the day. I had a friend who had one and had a Morin preamp that he ran into the return of his FX loop on his Marshall. Great sounding stuff and pretty difficult to find anymore.
