got a possible good deal on a Marshall JCM900 2100 ($550). This isn't the Dual Reverb, it's the one with 2 master volumes. Made between 1990-1992. Wondering if this amp would need a cap job for the age it's at? Any ideas or opinions? TIA!

It's basically a one-channel Jubilee.

Most people don't know this amp, I love it with a slight boost from a Tubescreamer clone.

thanks man, I'll probably grab it just to check out for a while if nothing else, maybe it will stay in the arsenal :)

One thing to watch out for: the MKIII seems to need a good bias adjustement along with good power tubes. I've had the head for 6 years now and the first two years i didn't like it that much... then it went in to the tech and got new tubes and proper maintenance. Haven't looked back since

It's great that they are cheap because people confound them with the other JCM900's (dual reverbs and SLX).

The Dual Reverb models go stupid cheap since most are looking for the SLX models.

Some tweaks and you can make them work but not my favorite.

no it's not
it has a much cleaner circuit than the jubilees and 2210
more like a 2203 with some diode clipping
the 2100 sounds a lot more natural than all the other diode clipped Marshalls as it is, and also easy to mod if you ever decide to take out the diodes
I can't stand the jubilee and 2210

If it sounds anything like the 4100, then it will sound like complete crap....my 4100 was a piece of junk, I waved it good bye as that poor sucker drove out my driveway with it.

the 4100 is a completely different amp
its preamp section is almost the same as a cheap marshall valvestate cube
some idiot had the brilliant idea of having a full solid state distortion circuit and adding some tube compression later (but not tube drive), and then wasting another tube for reverb only
that's why it can't be fixed by any mod

I have both a jubilee and a 2500, they sound incredibly close, so close that they're interchangeable (except that the Jub has two channels). I don't care about the technical side of things, i'm only interested in the sounds.

FWIW both amps were marketed as 2203s with diodes.

BTW, I also have a 2203...

Aren't the 2100 and 2500 SLX amps though? http://www.blamepro.com/br01210.htm

When you say your 2500 sounds close to a jubilee, which channel of the jubilee are you referring to, clean, rhythm clip, or distortion channel?

distortion channel.

no,the MKIII is a different amp than the slx

Meh, I would not say that, I have a 4100 modded by Todd Langner that I would put up against anything made today   But, I will say before the mod, it was my most hated Marshall of all time
