What would be your choice for a Blues ala Bonamassa/ Moore and Rock ala Satch gig?
Here is my take:
Marshall JVM HJS: Pros: Kerrang, cuts better in the mix, extreme versatility with the best clean channel on any Marshall i know. Channel 2 in orange mode gives a very open organic sounding bluesy tone. Very versatile. Price: Costs about 1/3 of the Friedmans.
Minus: Marshall`s reputation as a company has suffered a lot since the days of Jim Marshall.
Friedman: Smoother, a little darker sound- maybe a touch less organic sounding compared to the Marshall, set aside from the DS. Better quality, higher end components (?) better service, Dave Friedman seems to be very service oriented person, caring for his customers, that is a big +.

Did i forget something? I have played the Friedman BE on 2 occasions, a Friedman Smallbox and the Dirty Shirley. By the way- i can understand why Joe Bonamassa chose the DS from the Friedman line. I found that to be the most bluesy organic sounding of the bunch. A very impressive amp, as all Friedman amps by the way, but obviously not as versatile as the JVM.
Would love to hear your experience if you have any with "both" amps and why you prefer one over the other.

I'd save a ton and get a DSL. Gary and Joe had no issues. Gary used them live for years, as does Joe with BCC. Never heard any complaints about those tones!

Good tubes, good bias, and some volume will cop the kerrang you seek all day long.

Loved the HJS when I had it. Fantastic amp. 4 great channels and a lot of great Marshall goodness out of it. I have a BE-50 now though and I would not trade it for anything.

Agree with Dave. I love the JVM HJS and would love a Smallbox but for the price the DSL is a no brainer.

Between the two you have listed I would go with the HJS for versatility or the Smallbox.
