Buckeyedog asked me in another thread on JCM800's about the silver jubilee, so I thought I would make this thread so others can help him out.

So ask away Buckeyedog....

I will start out by saying, the Jubilee's strength, IMO is the gain channel. You have a clean, rhythm clip and gain channel. Shared EQ. Only the clean and gain can you footswitch between. Its hard to balance the volumes between them, mine is modded with an extra volume for the clean that helps. The input gain is what controls the overall gain of the amp, if you crank it high, you get a high gain sound on the gain channel, but your cleans suffer. Its a bit of a compromise. I will post some of my settings when I get home.

What cabspeakers are you planning to use with your Jubilee?

Cool man!! Yep, getting a 2553 small box black head in two weeks. Just bought it on a whim and am wondering what to expect. I love the 80's rock big time as I grew up in that era. Also dig the blues and strat rock as I have an SRV strat and also play a G0 Les Paul. Don't play any kind of metal.

So many varying opinions of this amp have me confused. Some say they are fantastic and I"ve heard other say the word "horrible". I know my way a bit around tubes and biasing and all that. Have boxes full of AX7''s to try and some spare sets of EL34's. Mainly will be playing through 212 and 412 with scumbacks (H/M mix in 212 and most likely Ms in the 412).

Can you set it to get that good mid gain crunch? That fast response power chord chunk. I don't mind running an O/D pedal.

Any info/experience would be greatly appreciated.

I have mainly seen very good reviews on the Jubilee, but there are 2 type of Marshall Fans, those that think their last good amp was a single channel JCM800 (some will say JMP or older) and those that think their modern amps and old amps are cool.

You can get some mid range crunch, with the rhythm clip and in the distortion mode by turning down the input gain. Mine takes pedals well, I usually use a Maxon OD-808 into the clean channel, or I use the OD-808 to boost the distortion channel.

The Distortion can be bit buzzy at lower volumes, like most Marshalls they sound the best when cranked up. I used my 2553 with my last band and got to crank it up to 6 in practice. Once I brought it home after the band broke up, I just didn't like it as much as lower volumes. I don't really like the half power mode either, seems to really rob tone, so I run mine at 50Watts (full power).

I am using the matching 212 with WGS ET-65's and really like the combo. For a long time I ran my Marshall 1936 212 copy with CL80's. The CL80's sound a little more modern than the ET-65's. When I got the matching 2556 cab it had WGS green berets which were pretty cool, very classic rock sounding. The green berets hurt the versatility and clean, so I opted to go to the ET-65's.

Man,I think they suck so you'd better just send that over this way ASAP   Nice score brother!!

Look up okstrat on youtube, I have a Jubilee vid and a 2205 vid. Jub was through a pair of 2x12 speakers though, the 2205 was into a V30 loaded 4x12. I need to do one of the Jub into a 4x12 next. :)

I come from the latter as I own new Marshalls and old ones. One of them happens to be an all original 2555 with matching 412 cab. I love my Jube head, it kicks ass! The crunch channel is excellent, it sounds as good if not better than my '77 JMP 2203. With on OD in front, it sounds even better! Mine has a ton of low end in it, something that was not too prevalent in 80's Marshalls, and it is surprisingly tight. I am really glad I own one, it is one of my favorite amps.

I have heard conflicting reports about the 50 watters. Soem say they are awesome, some say they are terrible. :dunno: Just like everything else I guess. :D

Cool guys, thanks for the scoop!! Guess I"ll find out if it's awesome or terrible here in a few weeks!!

Cool vid strato!!

Actually the vids that I'm finding on youtube sound damn good clean and crunch!! I'm feeling better about it now. Just one of those impulse buys..........can't help myself!!

Oh and Jason, I'll send you Jubilee then you send my your Bones when you get it!!

Im a huge fan of the jube and consider it my favorite marshall amp.

Here are my settings:

Presence - 7.5
Bass - 7
Mid - 6
Treble -7
Output Master - 4 :( This is cause I am using it at home, it really comes alive at 5 or so and higher
Lead Master - 5
Input Master - 6 (when I was using this with my band, I typically had it at 8)

I have Stratotone's old 2553. I was happy to see he got another one.

Cool man, saved for future reference!! Some of the clips have a pretty darn nice clean too. Pretty pumped to get mine. Thanks for all the input/help.

Looks like I'll have to wait for wifey to leave the crib so I can crank her up!!  Darn kids don't matter.......they need to be cultured to ROCK!!!

Yesterday, I tried running the input master down at around 4 on the Lead (Distortion) channel. This was with my thick and mean sounding '73 LP custom. I then boosted with my Maxon OD-808 for solos, sounded really good. What I am noticing is that if you keep the volume low, than turn done the input master, as it can get buzzy. As you crank the amp a bit, you can turn the input master up.

I want a Jubilee so fucking bad it hurts! :inlove:

Best-sounding Marshall ever made, IMO.

I've seen Joe Bonamassa so many times over the years, and for my money, all those boo-teek Category 5s and Carol-Anns be damned, his best tone is still when he cranks the Jubes!

Damn, got the Jube last night. Man, the crunch on this thing kicks ass!! Lovin' it so far. Very pleased.

Joe used my 2555 when he played in Austin once. He was getting a totally different tone out of it than I do. Sounded badass.

    Yeah, I kind of imagine Joe may get a bit different tone out of mine too!! Well you know since he's not as good as me!!

I bet he can't match my 3 power chords I know..........

I have heard some "fuzz" or something on some Jubilee clips, but not on this one. Man, just lovely Marshall crunch. Flip it to the neck pickup on the LP and was getting some more great tones. Can't wait to plug in the Strat as well and some various pedals. Gotta get an EQ now so I can do the loop volume boost thing too.

I owned one for a few years, and wish that I hadn't sold it. I will say that it's best to think of the Jubilee as a single channel amp. TO really get all the goods from the Lead channel you render the clean useless. But the Lead channel does sounds godly!

Damn, was just upstairs playing the strat and getting some damn nice tones on just the edge of breakup, and the lead channel with the gain down low and the master up and input gain around half. Damn fun amp so far........really diggin' it. I do hear you on the "one channel" amp thing though, especially playing out. Kind of tricky getting that clean level/tone good when the lead channel is killing. That lead channel does kill though! Holy smokes. fukkin' lovin' it so far.

Mine was modded with an extra volume knob in the DI hole in the back. This volume controls the clean channel volume, it makes balancing the volumes really easy, but its still a compromise between the channels as you have found. I still used it live as a 2 channel amp though
